i had an undercut but started over (for full lenght hair) anyway it's like 2 inches right now and I hate having short hair!! i for one can't wait for the awkward stage so people can at least tell i'm growing my hair out (it's almost like i'm a longhair trapped in a shorthaired guys body, lol) Today this teacher, who is really nice, came up to me and said "you need to cut your hair it's getting long"... that felt so good, i was like "alright people can tell it's getting long" lol. But to my question, about how long does it normally take to reach that point where you are IN the akward stage.

You will know it when your hair won't do what you are trying to get it to do. Out of control and pissing you off, wishing it would grow faster or wondering if you should make it short again...this usually defines the akward stage.
Depending on your hair it may take 2 or 3 times the normal haircut period you do with your short hair style to get to the begining of the stage. However, when it ends also depends on what you discover your hair does as it grows long for the first time.

A great question! In my case, it started about about 2 months after I would normally get it cut. It got worst at about 7 months after normal cutting time and now, a year on, it is finally becoming tame.
Try to enjoy the awkward stage! Some time ago a kind person on here said that I looked Bohemian rather than messy, and I took that as praise! I started to dress in a more casual manner to suit looking a bit scruffy, and suddenly the hair looked better - as thugh it was part of my 'look'!
Good luck!
