Awkward stage

Up until yesterday my hair was past my shoulder blades on the back
and pretty much layered on the sides.However i didn't like how
my hair looked and how it felt.It was dry had split ends(from colouring and cornrowing my hair)and pretty much didn't look the
way i wanted.So i had it cut so now it barely touches my shoulders.
However the back and sides now are all one length,and only need
my bangs to grow little longer to match the back.My question is this,
after all the time and trouble i went through to try to maintain
and keep my hair long without cutting it,was cutting the best solution
to my problem?
I hope i don't sound like a quitter...
Anyway's I used to have fast hair growth so i can only hope that
it grows back to the length it was before i cut it, by my birthday...

If your hair was as damaged as you say, then you probably did the right thing. May be best to learn from all that. Bottom line is it doesn't matter if what you did was "best" or not--it's done. Growing it out is all that is left. And it will grow out at whatever rate it does, regardless of hopes and deadlines. Just let it grow and live with it a day at a time. Might want to stay away from the dying and stressful styles.
