Problem with Wavy/Puffy Hair.....
Posted by Dan Smithson on January 16, 2002 at 16:02:27: Previous Next
I'm currently trying to grow my hair out, and I'm planning to have it at a length about that of Kevin in the Backstreet Boys, but my hair is naturally wavy and quite puffy.
I'm having trouble getting it to just tone down a bit and not puff up so much and go all over. It's quite frustrating and I was hoping for any suggestions as to what I could do to fix this.
I currently have to use quite a bit of gel, cause without it I've got quite the afro happening. My hair also curls alot on the sides so that bits stick out sideways. Even with quite a bit of gel, it's still relly big hair, and sticks out on the sides. On the top my hair is about the length to just past my nose, and on the sides it's to mabye the bottom of my ear when stretched out.
Any help would be much appreciated. My e-mail is mogra46@hotmail.com

dan,
i must agree with you...i think that kevin guy from the bsb has, or had (i read on this board he cut it) had awesome hair.
it sounds like you may need a bit more length to be able to seriously get rid of the poof you are experiencing.
currently, the flat iron is my best friend...i have very wavy and poofy hair....man, it can get so BIG....but about a year ago, i was introduced to the "hot tools professional flat iron," and i have not regretted it once. i do not use gels or mouse...when i used these in the past, they only succeeded in making my hair bigger.
i wash and condition my hair...comb through it and then dry it with a dryer...no brush while drying...just finger it. then when dry, i take the flat iron and section by section, starting in back underneath, and working my way forward, i straighten it...and when i am through, voila! i have straight, non-poofy, bouncy hair...i use a little product from aveda called "custom control" afterwards and it gives it a very nice smooth appearance.
i do not do this daily...by doing this, i only have to wash my hair once or twice a week at the most. i can get up, brush my hair, and be done.
good luck and keep it growing,
mjtoo
