A request

Hi all.
I've seen in 2 different discussions this week people using the Nazis as a methaphore for their discussions.
I must comment as a Jew(or for that fact any person) that calling people who oppose long hair Nazis or tying the holocaust with discussion if it's right or wrong to report offensive sites is offensive and disturbing.
Let's not forget that after all it's only hair so please try to refrain from doing it.
Thanks,
Adi.
No offense intended

I used this word earlier and did not mean to offend anyone. I am fully aware of the horrible things that the "Nazi's" did in Europe. If you look in the dictionary a nazi is:
"An adherent or advocate of policies characteristic of Nazism; a fascist."
The word nazi has certainly been used more casually over the past couple of decades, even if you remember many Seinfeld episodes where they mentioned the "soup nazi". Please do not take me wrong but I do not believe anyone should feel offended by the word. I don't want to start a heated argument, and this discussion doesn't really belong on the board so I'll drop it there.
Take care,
Scott

i must disagree with you. i am also Jewish and i am not offended in the comparison to neo-nazis and a group like hair reserve. there are people in this country that are hate groups, much like the nazis were. no one is comparing the holocaust to issues like hair. but there is a comparison to be made to bigots and nazi groups. People that preach hate hold the SAME ideology as the nazis did. Dont fool yourself into thinking the issue is only about hair. People that hate another group of people for no other reason other than the way they look are A HATE GROUP. There are sadly in this country NEO-NAZI groups who carry nazi flags and praise hitler. These groups DO exist today in our country and in other parts of the world. I urge people to show everyone how horrible these groups are and remind everyone what can happen when hate groups are allowed to flourish. In other words, it is very important to STOP hate groups. Calling people nazis who hold THE SAME IDEOLOGY- (HATE) AS THE NAZIS DID IS not being insensitive

Adi, the word "nazi" in English, spelled with a small "n" has come to mean anyone who would impose their ideology on others by force. It is no longer seen as a metaphor. Most of us remember teachers in school, for example, that the kids all said were nazis. :-)
Furthermore, ethnic cleansing, sadly, is still going on. We've seen it in recent years in Cambodia, in Africa, in the Balkans, and even on the soil where Jesus walked. In none of these places have we seen the perpetrators referred to as "nazis". This would suggest the meaning of the word has changed.

Are you talking about the ones who are in favour of the destruction of Israel? Strange — but I haven't heard of anyone CLAIMING that they are in favour of the destruction of Palestine (with the exception of Kahane, maybe?)

I didn't quite understand u...
As an Israeli I was saying that we aren't doing ethnic cleansing as the person who posted this message seemed to imply.

The person who posted the message claims that Israel wants to destroy Palestine. I have heard, though, that some Arab nations wanted to do "ethnic cleansing" to rid the Middle East of Jewish Zionists, which was what Hitler tried to do in Europe.

Yes. Brothers, let's cut off the beards of all the Talibans and wear long hairs, as a vow until the end shall come.

Just don't forget one thing, every country in the world, every colour of men, every religion in this planet, has their own advocates and hate groups, not just the nazis exist.
