A way to measure monthly hairgrowth?

I would have thought it's possible to regularly check monthly hair growth rates by first close shaving the lower/upper (?) sideburn areas completely smooth ?
I'm no expert but has anyone ever tried this ?

I think sideburns and other facial hairs grow faster then the hair on your head. because I'd get well over 2 inches of growth a month if that was true.

Yea why not mesure the length of a tuft of hair, and do it again in a month?
