Just creating conversation.

Hello. I am currently growing my hair long and my bangs are about 9 inches now just to give you and idea. Anyway, people ask me why and am growing my hair long and I say I want to. Plus I tell them it saves money from the barber shop. However, I am thinking am I really saving money? After all the haircare products are bought, that I didn't normally use, then it gets expensive. Although AUSSIE is not that bad, the longer your hair gets the more you use on conditioners and shampoo. Has anyone done the calculations on this?? I know the benefits of long hair outweigh the normallcy of short hair and plus it something I always wanted to do. Most people on this website say growing hair long saves money. But then they turn around and say use only the best haircare products. So I don't know if saying it saves money is a just reason. Comments?

The cost increase is not that much.
Shampoo use should be the same as you only really need to make sure that the scalp gets the heavy cleaning. Actually, shampoo use should go down as you don't want to shampoo long hair every day.
Conditioner will increase. I use about 2 dabs (about a palm full) insead of one now that my hair is past my butt.
Deep conditioner (about a palm full) gets used 1-2 times a week.
Hair trim cost once every 3 months or so is about $20 for my hair. If you get a bargain basement haircut for $5 every 3-4 weeks then you are pretty close to the same cost.
It can get expensive to damage you hair but I don't do that.
So, having hair is not an expensive undertaking.

I get my hair trimmed, and just barely, once every two months. I get maybe 1/8" to 1/4" trimmed. That way I lose the dead and split ends and still maintain growth. My hair is already long (halfway down my back), so growing it out is not an issue and trims are okay.
One haircut every two months is cheaper than a haircut every two weeks when you have short hair.
Secondly, I use products you can get at Sally's Beauty Supply which cost no more than the stuff at a regular store. Good stuff doesn't have to be expensive. I also wash my hair only twice a week, so essentially it's cheaper.
The cost of moisturizers and conditioners is no more than that of gels, mousse, hairspray, etc which shorthairs use.
So for me anyway, it's actually cheaper to have long hair. But ya know what, if having long hair cost 10 times as much...I'd still have long hair! I just do not like short hair. Period!

ACtually yes I do. I like all heavy metal. Which is shocking because I play classical guitar!

i am hesitant to quantify having long hair by means of a list of plus's & minuses- but if i were to i doubt that i would counter a 'benefit' like saving money with a 'drawback' like normalness as in my mind's economy, 'being normal' is a devalued currency.... sort of the 'ruble' in the personal asset exchange. if you are a true longhair there are no drawbacks- just things you deal with. if you find yourself continually questioning whether or not it's 'worth it' then you need to give some serious thought to why you are growing your hair in the first place.

Interesting. Since I let my hair go long, I shampoo and condition only half as much as I used to, maybe even less, so I really cannot say that I am spending more on hair care products. In fact, I am using and spending less.
