I've been putting my hair into a ponytail while at work for a while now (9 months) and have been disappointed not to be able to find larger black elastic hairties. Today I went to a fabric store and found that u can buy a couple yards of black elastic and stitch it together (I only used 8 inch lengths) to form a larger elastic hair tie. You can buy 1 1/2 yards of 1/2" wide black braided elastic for $2.40. I haven't used it yet, but it seems pretty sturdy and now it's big enough to wear on my wrist when not in my hair!

I just found out that elastic ties that r 1/2" wide don't work well at holding hair on hair that's still in the awkward stage. I also bought 4 yards of 1/8" wide black elastic for $1.20 that I cut into 54 8" lengths. Each one can be hand stitched together with black thread and works real well at holding my hair back (it's ~ 10 inches long).
Ponytails r great for getting through the awkward stage!!
