I can't have long hair???

I'm wondering if maybe some people just can't have long hair. I'm at 6 months and my hair is such a problem. The sides are ok, they are pretty much straight (the back towards the bottom does flip but I don't care) the top of my hair however is so horrible. Very wavy, some hairs are even curly, tons of cowlicks especially in my bangs which makes it look like total crap and overall pretty frizzy. I have to wear a hat to keep the hair looking ok, and I get tired of having to wear a hat. if I do not wear my hat my hair gets really frizzy and big (I can stand the curls and waves but walking around with only the top part of my hair being an afro I can't stand). I know a few other people who are growing their hair out, use no products and their hair, though looking pretty shaggy, does not look as horrible as mine. I'm thinking of giving up if it's always going to be like this, i've always wanted long hair but it's not worth it If i have hair this bad, I mean what good is long hair if you have to be wearing a hat all the time (or gel or some other way of holding it down and making it stay, which is more of a short hair kinda thing)

Ever thought of booking yourself in for a private appointment with a top recommended Woman’s Salon(s?) who hopefully specialise in long hair ? No idea of costs obviously but that if you liked their advice you’d be prepared to try out their treatments ? I'd be very surprised if there aren't some women who've got the same type of hair as yours as well. At least then you’d know you’d be getting the best advice going.

yes. i have a friend who has hair that is similar to what it sounds like you have. we have called him "top-heavy" (in a friendly manner) because it all kind of just forms this afro, but not really an afro, on top. and when he brushes it back, it kind of makes this "mini-helmet" as he calls it, which is really what it looks like; pretty weird. it is really odd hair, but i appreciate it because it is different. anyway, he is not trying to grow it out, so i do not know what it would look like, but it seems like after some time, (maybe a year) hair would kind of start to settle down and start flowing and going down. maybe it would take a couple years. i do not know because my hair is quite straight and has always just pretty much grown downward. but i would bet that after a while, if you let everything grow, it will eventually start looking "normal". i mean, i have a hard time imagining that a sort of "partial afro" or cowlickish type hair would keep on growing and being weird forever. so i guess, probably not to your surprise, i would say "keep growing". :)

I'm a woman so I hope you don't mind my comments. My hair is about 3 inches from my waist, not very poofy, but I have cowlicks too. Your cowlicks will get less noticeable as your hair grows. (mine really stood out when my hair was chin length but are fairly tame now.)
After I wash my hair, I use a towel or bandana to wrap around my head until the hair is dry. This makes my hair look limp, but takes away most of the frizziness.
Also, try some of the anti-frizz cremes at grocery stores, I buy V05 anti-frizz creme, about $5.00 and works well. You can put it on when the hair is wet or dry.
You didn't mention if you use conditioner or not, but a moisturizing one is usually good for wavy or curly hair, which can look frizzy from being dry. They make shampoo and conditioner specially for curly hair which might be a good thing to try. Just remember you don't have to spend a lot of money, many times the cheapest ones have the sames ingredients as the expensives ones.
This suggestion will be time consuming, but when your hair gets long enough, look through it and trim just above any splits in the individual hairs. By cutting only the hairs that have damage, your hair will get the most growth possible than if you trimmed all the hair. This will keep hair from looking too damaged or stringy.
Last, I really like long hair on men, and I bet your hair looks better to others than it does to you. I personally think long hair looks great on a man, whether its a frizzy afro or not. Who says everybody's hair has to look the same? No one would notice you then. Let me know if you try any of these things and how they worked. I'd be happy to answer anyone's questions if I can.
