progress... (8 months)

Hi, I'm 21, currently in process of growing my hair out,
as I always looked dorky with short hair, and even tho i'm in the middle of the "awkward" stage, I am *loving* it! :)
My bangs are just past the tip of my nose when pulled straight, about 5" long in the back, and the sides come to about 1.5" past the bottom of my ears)...
I have gotten *very* few negative comments so far .. (suprising, considering that I work as a salesman at radio shack... )
My parents (fortunately!) don't care, guess they just figure I could be doing worse things to myself ;)
The heat & humidity here is making things fun, but I'm not going to cut it, during an IL winter I need all the insulation I can get!
(thinking about trying for terminal length)
I apologize for the low-quality picture, and hope it shows up
(long time lurker, first time poster to this board...)
hope this post makes sense too! :)
David

Hey, dude, when I seen your name DAVIDF I about
freaked. My name is David Freeman and I post here
under Treyn. Then I seen your pic and freaked even
more cause you kinda look like me and we both live
in Illinois. I live in Taylorville, Illinois.
Where do you live? I have my pic attached for you
to see what I look like. Your hair is a little
more wavier than mine. GOOD PROGRESS! Looks like
you may be using a PC Camera. That's what I use.

My hair is actually a *lot* fluffier than that, i had just washed it in that pic.. (it's typically in some sort of quasi-afro ;)
I started back in nov. from (i think) 1.5-2"...
you've got some good progress in your pic too!
thanks,
David

How about posting more pics of your hair as how it normally looks (you said this pic was from when you washed it)? And how short was it when you started 8 months ago?

Thanks!
I'll probably have another pic in a day or so (after buying some batteries for the camera...)
it normally looks kind of like a "flat afro" (if there is such a thing)
iirc, it was about 2" when I started back in late nov.
(I have had *Zero* trims since then :)

What's a "flat afro"? Is that when the afro is flattened against a wall? Or maybe an oblate spheroid? Or somewhere between straight and curly (like wavy), when gravity tries to pull the afro down?

it's kinda weird, sometimes it's like a real afro,
and the other times it's flat on top, and bushy on the sides...
(gravity is winning lately tho, and making it flatter all around :)

Hi from IL also, I'm in the Dixon area too David.
Pics of both of you look like you are making progress. Been there, finally can almost keep it all in a ponytail, for a bit, sides do tend to fall out unless I use a little gel or something, which I don't like to do.
Here's my explanation, I'm older..46 to be exact. Last year the wife said she wanted me to grow my hair long enough for a ponytail. I figured what the heck, had long hair in the 70s, tho not this long, why not do it now, I'm not gonna get any younger. Great excuse to those who question, actually few have considering how conservative rural IL is...It's my wife's midlife crisis, LOL.
Anyway started sometime last year, maybe Mar. Had a good trim in June for a cousin's wedding, was still concerned then, look back and that was nothing. Since then I've had maybe 3 very minor trims, to clean up the sideburns, hair on the back of the neck. Know many here say never do that, but you have to have the right person.
I needed to look a little neater for work, but wanted to keep the length. As the gal does my wife's hair she knew what we wanted, she is very good if you want her name David. I may have delayed some slight progress in growth, but it was worth it for the neatness of it all. She took off almost zero length as I don't seem to get many split ends.
Good luck to you both. I'm a puter idiot, but if I ever get a recent photo I'll post it. I'm much more comfortable now that I can put it into a ponytail, as I work outside in the summer. Bandanas and hats are OK, but I'd rather not have anything like that on my head.
Glad to see you both here. Let's make IL the Land of Lincoln and Long Hair, LOL!
