Sticky out head!

Hi people,
I have longish hair cut in layers at the mo. The only trouble is, I have a funny skull/head shape at the back! The back of my head points out more than normal heads, and sometimes when my hair dries, the hair sort of follows the shape of my head (i.e. sticks out at the top of the back then goes in at the middle of the back, then sticks out again at the bottom of the back of my head).
I desperately want to correct this somewhat by getting it cut a certain way but I'm not sure of the best way and I still want to have longish hair. Do you think that by growing my hair at the back of my head to a longer layer length (maybe even to all one length at the back) and getting a slight undercut at the bottom of the back (say one inch) would appear to flatten the back of my head a bit? Please can anyone give me any advice at all on how I could get my hair cut to correct the problem of having a sticky out head!
I desperately await any solution!
P.S: I would much prefer a solution to my problem that didn't involve blow-drying or hours spent styling it but I would love to know any thoughts at all that you have to correct my problem.

Grow it all to one length and then you can decide if you want an
undercut also. Cutting it now would just prolong the sticking out
problem.

Sounds to me like a half ponytail might disguise your sticky out head quite nicely.

If you grow your hair so that the hair from the top of your head is at least shoulder length, then it should cover any faults in the shape of your head. Don't get rid of the layers by cutting anything until you have reached the top hair to shoulder length stage, as until then you willfind that the length of your hair is noticed more than the shape of the head underneath.
