I have heard about people using mayonaise as a conditioner, but make sure it is the real thing such as helmans, and not the salad dressing stuff which would cause problems. I personally use olive oil kind of as an 'instant moisturizer' just run a very small amount through your hair. I never had luck with store bought conditioners I dont know about you.

Well I had actually thought about using olive oil but wasnt sure if the acidity of the olives would hurt hair. I love italian cooking and always have tons of top of the line olive oil around so i may try this. How long do you elave it in? Do you put some in the morning and leave it all day or let it sit an hour and rinse it out? Also about the mayonaise if I try that how long should I leave that in? I know mayonaise is for SURE Not an all day thing hehe but how long provides good penatration and hydration? thanx all

I like using coconut oil like once a week before I use shampoo and conditioner on my hair. It's good for the scalp (Indian mothers have used it in south India for a long time as a scalp massage on their little boys and girls to strengthen hair follicles); it's also good for moisturizing the hair and leaves it shiny.
It's cheap too-I buy a small container of Parachute coconut oil (it's pure and hasn't been processed-can also be used as a cooking oil) for ~ $2 at my local Indian food market. It solidifies at cool temperatures but easily returns to being a liquid when heated (heat the container in hot water).
Hope this helps!

Canola Oil works just fine and doesn't have the strong odor of olive oil. I put a little in after drying my hair.
