hello all, i found this discussion board while surfing the internet a few weeks ago and this is my first post so sorry if all this has been asked before
i've always had real thick hair and had it short hair all my life but i've wanted long hair for a while and havent been able to for one reason or another, so in jan, i finally decided i was going to let it grow and my last haircut was in the very biginnng of January and my hair seems to grow really slow so i'm in the terrible awkward stage. does anyone know of anything safe that can make hair grow faster?. also since it is the awkward stage my hair is kinda hard to controll by itself i was using Hair Gel to keep it down, can the Gel cause any kind of damage to hair in any way?. anyway how long do you think it will take to my middle back?

My advice is NOT to take any pills to make your hair grow longer. It may work, but it may also be very harmful to your health.
I'm pretty sure that most gels will damage your, but not seriously. If you really need it, I'd say it's fine.
And as for your hair getting down to your back, I'd say at least a couple of years. It may sound like a long time, but it's most certainly worth it!

Welcome Jack to the club! Sounds like you are right on track. There's always concern for products that make your hair grow faster. Many of us have tried them. I am one who thinks, looking back, that it was a waste of money. Your hair will grow as slowly as everone else's--unfortunately. As for gel, or spray, I have used both to get through the awkaward stage, and I still use a little spray gel to get a little control when I need it. Moderate use and otherwise good care and conditioning isn't going to do much damage. Plan on spending most of the next two years letting your hair grow out. You will probably reach some stage in about a year where you are mostly beyond awkward. From then on it gets progressively nicer.

I haven't tried any products to make my grow longer. I have been growing it for a little less than a year now. I personally hate gel, but I do remember using it when I first started growing it, now I just shampoo my hair less, this keeps it from flipping up so much, although it starts to get really greasy so I wash it like every three days. It will take you a few years to get to mid back, I know it sounds long, but hang in there. The awkward stage sucks, but anything is better than having short hair, eh? (Especially that horrible 'wave' haircut that is so trendy right now)
