does anyone else here have problems with Family trying to get you to cut your hair? mine does it all the time
every time i see them it's the same thing, they keep nagging and nagging "When Are You Gonna Cut your hair?", "you look like a hippie" and "You Look Like A Girl" which i think is the funniest one because i have a full beard so i definetly don't look like a woman
lol, anyone in the same boat as i am?
seems like everyone is against me having long hair
if it wasent for the support of my Girlfriend i would have probabaly kept it short

Well, one family member kept asking UNTIL I said: "Not only am I not cutting it....I'm letting it GROW!"
After that nobody asked me that question again!

I've had this for a good 11 years. Including the mullet years (bletch!). I just ignore it.

Yep, but the one i hear the most is "You Need A Haircut!"
even after i've told them like a thousand times i'm growing it out they still feel the need to tell me i need a haircut
i mean if they KNOW i'm growing it out why do they assume i want a haircut, also another thing is i come from one of those extremly Conservative families that demand everyone looks and dresses like its the 40's again, its really frustrating at some times because i'm about as libral as you can get especially when it comes to hair and dress
but with me it must be something else because they nag and complain about EVERYTHING i do lol
sorry if i'm getting off topic here just needed to vent lol
Hell yes!

My mother hates it and always has. If you think you have it bad, try putting up with a mother who won't shut up about it for 25 years!
No sense in arguing or fighting about it. All you can do is ignore it.

I hate to hear when other people get problems with families giving them a hard time about their hair growing antics. Those who do have regular arguments, you have my sympathies, i hope you find a way through it.
I think im in the minority in that my parents support me in my quest to grow some hair. My mum especially is helpful, but she has often expressed worries that i'll be judged by my appearance rather than by what i can do or am capable of (ie. i wont get some jobs because of my hair).
The only family member i get hassle from is my grandfather, who is ex-military and has his hair cut very regularly. He cant force me to cut it, and i ignore his negative comments.
Im very glad im fortunate enough to have a (mostly) understanding family. At he end of the day, it is your choice though, and people should respect it. Sadly that doesnt always happen, as we all know too well.
OK, im sorry for the rant, sometimes i get carried away :)
Peace,
Paul

Make them think about what they are saying.
Ask them if they really dislike you so much that they feel the need to keep giving you a hassle about it. Will they not accept you as you are...as you have done with them.
Dad approves, mom is neutral

My dad and all my uncles on my dad's side are the biker type with really long hair. All my cousins from that side have long hair, also. My mom tried to talk me out of it at first, but now she doesn't care, since it doesn't look as bad as she thought it would (it actually looks good).
I must be in the extreme minority here, but I live in the midwest, and where ever I go, I get nothing but compliments on my hair. And I'm a sophmore in highschool. From all the posts here, I would think that I would get hassled alot, but even the crew-cut jocks think it is cool. Alot of girls even commented on it when it was in the awkward stage and flipping out, saying they wish their hair would do that.

My dad doesn't say anything because he used to have longhair back in the day. My mom doesn't say anything at home, but when we are out in public if somebody mentions me growing out my hair, good or bad, she is quick to jump on it. She'll say that I'm trying to be a hippie or it's just a phase. So form that I know she doesn't like it. Most of my family has gotten used to it by now though. My uncle still doesn't like and makes negative comments a lot.

My uncle has had a ponytail for longer than I can remember and he actually ENCOURAGED me to grow my hair. Unfortunately hes the ONLY one in my family thats cool with long hair on guys, everyone else hates it (except me of course)
