I think its more that the personality of a person causes them to choose long hair.

Well that is a VERY deep question. First off you must ask what is personality? Is it your genetic make up and brain chemistry or is it all the events of your life built up to form a personality? Or a combination of both? Well for me I think that yes it does change personaility to an extent. I think that having long nice, cool, healthy looking hair will convey an aura of confidence and pride. Pride in the caring of the hair and attention to detail throughout the many years of dedication it takes to have a healthy head of hair. and Self confidence knowing that you are special and good looking by (most importnantly) your own standards. I also it gives the opposite sex an excuse to make contact with you and comment on your hair and ask to touch it and so on thus providing confidence as well. So I would say YES I beleive it to change your personaility for the better. It might help to make you more out going and accepting of other peoples choices to be difrent in other ways as well.

Yes for it is true, that a modification in appearance may very well shift an individuals personalty. However in response to the preceding follow up, growing your hair is a very pshycihiological task, I have tried many times to grow my hair long but all has failed for I was too stubborn with having semi medium hair. Which brings me to another point. The steps in which you take to grow out your hair does shift your personality, you become eager, stressed out, impatient and then after you cut your hair only to find that you are starting back from sqwuare one - a realization that you have failed. But when you do have that prefered length of your hair, all is well, feeling of great accomplishment. However their are cons involved in having long hair, one might be depending on the legnth of hair, your hair may seem unmanagable. If you sweat alot, workout or do sports, you may have to wash your head more. What I am saying is that your responsibility level has just increase, and that alone would change your insights on having long hair.

Change the personality?

Yes, but to what degree??
All I know is that I've had to be a bit braver to face
different kinds of people...but no quitting for me.
And though in the past I was just trying to 'blend in' now,
all of a sudden it's more like "I'm in your face so now deal
with it" (though I don't actually say that!)
It's a choice...me or them...
So for me, the personality definitely HAD to change and get STRONGER!
Can anybody else relate to this?

I don't think it's has to do with personality, but more to do with attitudes. It takes some attitudes to actually decide to grow your hair out. So does it take attitudes to see people in a more positive light.

I think of my long hair as an extension of my personality. My hair proclaims "I am an individual! I am unique! I am me!" before I speak even one word.

No. I don't feel any different now that my hair is longer. I do like having it, that's all.

No it doesn't change a person's personality,it just is the physical visual indicator to identify a person who is a free spirit.
