Need Some Advice

I've been trying to let my hair grow for awhile, and over the summer I got my hair layered. The problem is that my hair is really thick, and i cant brush it or anything without sticking my head under the faucet, and after my hair dries it sorta messes up, escpecially on the sides on my head. I know some of it is because my hair has a natural curl to it, and
it might be because i use to twist my hair a lot, and keep it really short. I guess I need to know what I shoudl do about it. Would hair straitener work, and shoudl I try that? Or maybe do a bowl cut and let it grow? I don't know if I could do that because when my hair gets long I would want it to look something like james hetfield or tom arayas hair.
It's getting really frustrating because by the time i get to school it looks like i dont even brush my hair. Thanks in advnace.

Leave it alone and let it grow. The longer it gets the more it will lay down from its own weight. These are the sufferings that we guys with thicker hair have to endure for a while. My hair matches the description you gave of your own hair, and I have just let it go and do it's own thing. I am approaching the end of the awkward stage myself, and I can tell the longer it gets the better it behaves. Try using some sort of gel to keep it down for a while and see how that helps. But cutting and shaping and all that jazz is only going to keep you in the awkward stage longer and frustrate you even more. Suffer it, dude! In the end you'll be glad you did. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
