bold spot

I have a weird bold spot right smack in the middle of my hairline (it’s the size of a quarter maybe a little more and I do have hair there it’s just not thick as everything else, and my hair is very thick), well now that I started growing my hair out it’s kind of noticeable. I had this bold spot since the age of 14 now that I am 25 I can’t really say that it’s getting much worse, but I am getting a little paranoid and I REALLY want to grow my hair out.
I am going bold? Should I stop growing my hair out to prevent further damage?
Maybe it’s normal for guys in my age group, to develop some bold spots in their hair lines?

Growing your hair out won't make it any worse at all. Hair length and it's weight have nothing to do with going bald. Baldness is genetic. Is their any baldness in your family?
The only thing it will do is weight the hair down to where it is a little more noticable by laying the hair down more, but by the size you say it is, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Grow it long, dude. I think you'll be fine. If it hasn't gotten any worse since 14, it probably won't for many years to come. PEACE!!!!!

Thanks for the support, I am actually encouraged to keep it growing now. I am only in my 6th month but already love the longer look then the buzz cut I used to have.

spots that turned completely WHITE!

Lol, I'll ask my parents the next time I see them.
My mom swears that she has the same type of bald spot, but I can
barely see it, maybe it's the way she styles her hair.

My oldest brother has a bald space on his head from an accident he had when he just a little baby. We grew up in the mountains of North Carolina. We didn't have indoor plumbing, we had an out-house. We also had a wood stove that was the only heat source for the house. A lot of folks in my area lived this way. Makes me appreciate what I have now a lot. Anyway, my brother got too close to the hot stove and he fell against it and it permanently fried that one spot on the back of his head. Of course I wasn't concieved into existance yet, so I didn't see it happen. LOL!

If it is the size of a quarter, and its not bald, just thin, you should be able to style it in such a way that it won't be noticeable, and it won't be noticeable that you styled your hair in such a way as to make something unnoticeable. Make sense? If you have "normal" hair, it probably wont need to be more than a few inches long before this wont be a problem. How long is your hair now?

My front hair is about 4 inches, my back is slighltly longer,
that bald spot is only noticable under certain lighting conditions(like with the light is directly above my head) but otherwise it's okay, and like you mentioned I can style it so that nobody ever notice it.
I think I was a bit paranoid, but I am glad I asked the question because I can grow it LONG with out worries :)

There is a condition called alopecia areata I think that usually manifests itself as quarter sized patches of baldness. If you wait until there is no hair at all in the bald spot, there's nothing you can do. However, if you still have some hair there, it is treatable.
See a dermatologist. There are sometimes dermatologists on this board who may have more information for you.
Note: I'm not saying this is what you have -- only that it's a possibility. Only a dermatologist can make the assessment with confidence.
