hair gel and damage

Hi, recently, with school starting and all, I’ve made an extra effort to look clean and well groomed. Thus, I’ve started using gel every now and then but am now growing concerned that this may be damaging it. I’ve heard numerous times that gel with alcohol in it WILL in fact damage your hair, but how am I to know if there is alcohol in my gel? Will it be labelled as alcohol in the ingredients or is there a more scientific-like term I should be looking for in the list of ingredients? Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks guys.

Just buy a gel that specifically states 'does not contain alcohol'. Unfortunately the labels dont always tell the truth but someone else here might know a list of ingrediants that are harmful. If it contains something like isoproponol or ethanol or any other name for an alcohol then dont get it. As for damage I am not sure if alcohol just dries the hair temporarily or if it does in fact damage the hair but its better to be safe i guess.

The gels I have seen that have alcohol in them usually list the work "alcohol". I also avoid those types of gels.
