I'm tempted to cut the back of my hair

I'm at the supposed bad phase yet my hair isn't all that bad looking - well except the back. The problem is I want to even it all out since my bangs are down to my mouth and the back is sort of down to my neck. But the back looks a bit sloppy and out of place. I asked the salon lady what I should do and she said wait until my bangs are down to my shoulders and then I can even it out. Is this wise to do? Will I regret even it all out (I'm not in a huge rush to get my hair as long as possible. It will eventually be down there)? If anyone wants pictures of what my hair looks like now and can offer advice leave your emails. Thanks!

Even it out when ever you want as long as you can get it all one length. You'll eventually do it anyways.
Wait...

I've heard a lot of guys say what your salonist said. You will get the mop look if you do it too soon. Wait till your bangs get to the base of your neck and then even it out. That is if you don't like what you see then. You just might, you know!

I agree with Treyn...as a men's stylist, I can verify you will get an unattractive mop look if you even off too soon. I counsel my growing-out-their-hair clients to wait until the bangs are below the chin before they "even it out". If you want to contact me with photos directly, Joe, you are welcome to do so. Check out my website, too, if you like.

Yes, wait. I made the mistake of evening mine out too soon the first time around growing my hair out. It suddenly seemed very short in the back, and just prolonged the awkward stage. It also looked girly, in my opinion. Wait till it's at least another 3 inches, I say.

I'm in a similar situation, however my bangs reach the bottom of my chin. Is it time to get it evened out? I want to have it all the one length so I can just grow it over summer (in Aust). Any advice welcome. Cheers!

Must be strange down under, being cold in July and hot in December. Then again, you guys get better stuff for Christmas!
Cheers,

I say lower neck region myself for those who want to even out. I myself have thrown around the idea of evening it out when it gets long enough, but I will probably just keep the layered lower end because I kinda like that look. Peace!!!
No!!

DONT DO IT!! I did it and messed it up then I shaved it all off and started again. This was about 2.5 years ago.

Assuming your goal is all one length, I would say do whatever you want your style to be in growing it out. I think part of the excitement in growing hair out is how you look along the way. If you think you might enjoy cutting the back to even it out now, I say go for it. Just take into account the texture of your hair so you know what to expect after you cut it. Otherwise, with the lenght that your at, it won't take that much longer to get to your shoulders anyway. :)
