A poor old lady called me 'Miss'...

...this morning. She needed some help in reaching for a bunch of bananas.
I handed them to her and smiled to myself.
Signed:
'Lady' with a little mustache
....he..he
Anybody have a story of 'mistaken identity' to share?
Haha actually....

Yesterday at work, an elderly man called me "ma'am" but he only saw me from behind. When I turned around he said "er, I mean sir" and smiled. Funny moment.
he..he...

yet another 'behind' the scene story!
It's always a little troubling when somebody is looking at you from behind
and you have no idea WHAT thy are thinking.

Not to do with long hair but...! I used to be a librarian and one day I was phoning round readers to inform them that their requested books were available. One such was a sweet elderly lady who came in several times a week. When I phoned her to say we had a book for her she started laughing and saying: 'Steve, I know it's you! Stop putting on that silly posh voice." the more I tried to convice her that I really from the library and not Steve (whoever he was) playing a prank, the more she laughed. I could not convince her that I wasn't this Steve putting on a silly voice! I never thought I had a particularly posh voice, silly or otherwise! She never came in the library again after that, but sent her husband instead. For the record, I had short hair at the time, not that that's got anything to do with it!
Bye, Rick

thats happened to me a lot to as i was working in a supermarket so was constantly around old people etc. proberbly the worse and only 2 times ive actually not really liked or been able to brush aside as one of those things that happens when u grow hair are:
Little Girl (looking straight at me): 'Daddy, is that a boy or a girl?'
and...
Old Man to his Wife: (i have my back to them) 'I wonder if this young lady can help us'
Wife: (correcting him) 'Young man dear...' (i relax as they have correct gender and so turn around to face them)
sorry
Wife: 'Oh, you are a young lady. Im so sorry'
Old Man: 'See, I told you'
ending with me being very embarrased and proberbly turning bright red.

That is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard.
As for the little girl, don't worry about it. I've had that happen to me as well, and my hair's only about 3 inches at its longest.

Once at the grocery store I had the exact same thing happen with a little girl. Her mother didn't say anything... I just looked at the little girl and smiled.
And I also used to work in a supermarket, and had that problem with old people all the time. And it happened when I was FACING them, too, which is very awkward, especially when someone else is near and I wonder what everyone is thinking. Some of them aren't sure WHAT I am... I have a baby face, I guess that's why.

Happens to me all the time. Only yesterday there was this old lady begging by the roadside who addressed me as Madam. Then there was this bus conductor who said "Miss, would you mind going forward?" and got horribly embarrassed when I turned my head.
My best friend's father once told him, as I got ready to join him on his bike, that people would think he had at last got a girlfriend!
As for little girls, I did once hear one loudly ask her mother "Mum, is that really a guy?"
