Every journey begins with the first step

Hi... i've been reading this message board for weeks now. I decided to start growing my hair after i shaved my head in july (i think). Lets say i started growing it since August. So i've been growing my hair out for a total of approx 2.5 months. Its starting to look a bit hideous now..hair on the back of the neck is growing long...i'm thinking about giving myself a mushroom cut and just letting the top hair grow long before letting the bottom hair grow long. or should I bare it and not cut it?
Anyway... I plan to keep posting messages letting you guys know monthly that i have not cut my hair. I seek encouragement here and i've read a lot of encouraging posts so far.
Fighting the temptation to cut hair.

u probably gots about 1 1/2 inches of hair on your head. That's where I started over 2 years ago and haven't cut it since. If u want to have long hair then make a decision to let it grow for years without cutting it. Cutting hair doesn't make it grow faster and u are only walking away from your goal of long hair when u cut it. Instead, take good care of your hair (Bill's site has good hair care info) so u won't have damaged hair or split ends to take off. A link to Bill's site is here:
Once u grow it for about a year, go to a stylist and have them cut off ONLY the short curly hairs on your neck that won't go into a hair tie-they didn't even charge me when I did that. I went in with my hair tied back into a ponytail and did that-it took her less than 5 minutes.

Thanks Marty, yeah my hair is about 2 inches on top and a inch and a half on the sides and such. Thats 2 inches I didn't have when i had shaved my head :] so... I already feel like i'm getting somewhere. My hair grows about 1/2 inch a month i think... hopefully by july i'll have my hair chin length. :] I'm not going to bail on you all here... despite girls thinking short hair is cute and all that crap. I'm doing this for me :]
thanks for the support and tips

Yea, Marty (the kid) is right, man. Determination is the key. Don't look at the present, look at the future. Say, a couple years from now. Believe me the older you get the faster the years pass you right on by. It is definetly a challenge, but that is what makes it so sweet when you emerge on the other side as an accomplished LongHair. Keep up the fight, dude, we're all here with ya' bro!
PEACE!!!!!

yeah that can be a pain, i decided to grow mine out about 2 weeks after i had a REALLY close buzzcut so it was ALMOST the same thing, i'd say don't cut it though, i didn't
although i don't like the feel of a lot of it what i used to get through that point untill i could part it was gel,
used that for like 7 months untill it got to the point where i didn't need it anymore, all i can tell you is to try and tough it out, i felt like cutting for months
but if i did i would have regreted it and
now i'm glad i didn't
