Hey guys.. i am getting VERY VERY frustrated. I am kinda getting really mad over this whole growing the hair out thing. I really have always wanted long hair since i was in like 2nd grade. I am a sophmore in high school and have been growing my hair out for 6 months and it is getting very VERY hard to manage. I don't know what to do because when i part it in the middle it poofs out on the sides and when i don't part it at all it is in my eyes. What should i do...?? I could really use some help PLEASE! I get told at least 3 times a day "Cut your hair" or "Moptop" or things like that and i am on the verge of just cutting it off!!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Welcome, my friend, to the dreaded world of the "AWKWARD STAGE" This is the ultimate test that a guy who desires to have long hair will have to endure. Those comments you hear about your hair, the flipping out at the sides, the poofyness, bigness, unmanageability, etc, etc, etc, are all classic side-effects to growing out long hair. Styling gels and things like that are O.K. to use if they are alcohol free to aid in taming the hair throughout the awkward stage, but the full picture is simply ones true desire to perservere for the end result. Do you really want long hair bad enough to endure the trials of the awkward stage, or is your desire not strong enough to put up with it and all that comes with it?
You have to decide for yourself if you have a head of hair on your body for the visual benefit of everyone around you, or if that head of hair is on there for you. Will you let "you" tell you what is good for your hair, or will you let "everyone else" tell you what is good for your hair? Your call, dude!
Don't get me wrong, I know how frustrating it can be putting up with it because I am still putting up with it, but I will succeed because it is what "I" want. When people voice their opinions about my hair I just laugh it off and go on about my life. What other people think doesn't matter to me. I don't consider them enemies in any way if they don't like it, I just let them have their opinion and leave it at that. Good luck, bro, in whatever you do, but if you want long hair, you have to endure and persevere the trip it takes to get there! Peace!!!!!

Until it grows out longer you need to use something to control & manage it...
Experiment with some light, alcohol-free gels, etc.
Then style it and leave it alone as much as possible.
Good luck!

Stick with it! Oh my gosh dude, by the time you start your senior year you'll have hair that the girls will LOVE and the guys will envy.
Keep your head up and your mind focused on the exciting journey of growing your hair out. Just don't get ANY trims until you get it the length you want!
Remember. Girls love it, guys will be so jealous. I just wish I would have made the decision to grow my hair when I was a sophomore. I'm a senior in high school and made the definite decision this July. I have to grow through this awkward stage now, but by the middle of college I'll be a freaking chick magnet... if I play my cards right. :) Have fun with it!

Hang in there dude. The comments will drop way off when your hair gets longer. Eventually they will be as rare as hen's teeth.
At this point they see you as a sheep leaving their fold. Once you have the length to be seen as a lost cause, most won't waste time proselytizing you anymore. :-)

In my experience, months 5-7 have been hell. Before that, hair was too short to be troublesome. After the 7 month mark, it finianlly got long enough that it looks decent (although its by no means reached the length I desire, but atleast I can now tolerate looking at it). Hand in there. Just ignore anyone superficial enough to treat you with contempt solely on the basis of your maturing looks: They (the wankers, not your hair strands) aren't worth concerning yourself over.

I started growing my hair the 2nd semester of my freshman year. Now I am a Junior. Believe me, stick with it and you will reap the benefits. Be strong. Hang in there (no trims, cuts, or thins please). As hard as it seems, try to ignore the naysayers, they rag on you because they don't have enough courage to strike out for themselves. Make sure you take good care of it and by the end of 2nd semester you should be getting some compliments.

Be encouraged, because we have all been there or are going through it with you still. It can be rough but I still believe it will be worth it! I am entering my eighth month and am starting to see results. It also takes some time to "learn" how to take care of this stuff. I mean I used to comb my hair with a washcloth (LOL)
Listen to these guys, because they know better than I. This place is a place of encouragement and support. Peace to you friend.
