my hair is so thick and curly that i can't really brush it when it's dry, so i usually take a shower in the morning before i go to work and just comb it when it's wet
how much damage can this cause?
i decided i'm going to try and go for termanal length so i want to keep any damage to a very minimum

It can cause quite a bit of damage. But if you are really careful it shouldn't cause much. I too have to comb my hair when it is wet. If I don't, I can't get a comb or brush through it after it dries. I use a very wide tooth comb most of the time, sometimes I just use a pick and I try to be as gentle as possible. So far I haven't caused much damage at all. It also helps if you apply a detangler or leave in conditioner. So,just use a wide tooth comb or plastic pick very gently and you should be fine.
