Bad decision

About two months ago, I cut my shoulder-length hair after letting it grow for 18 months. Now, I made the decision on my own, but not without my mother pressing me to do so. She told me that I would look much better, and would stop being confused for a girl. Well, I did it, and liked it for the first month, but now I hate it, and want my hair back. But, my parents say no. Well, this doesn't seem very fair, considering I made the decision to cut own my own. What should I do?

Well, unless you move out, you don't have much choice but to abide by their rules. I only got away with growing mine out when I was still living at home because my dad supported my decision to grow it. He always figured that, as long as I wasn't involved with anything illegal, or doing drugs, he'd be behind me in whatever I wanted to do with my life. He's always felt it important, as a parent, to let me make my own decisions as long as I'm willing to accept the consequences. He'd like to see it short again, but respects me enough not to make a fuss about it.
My mom, on the other hand, was raised to believe that all men should have short hair. If it was long, it was a sign of homosexuality, and that reflected poorly on the parent. So the two of them were in a constant battle about my hair, with dad defending me all the time.
You might want to consider having them sit down with you and have a serious chat about your wanting to grow your hair long. Perhaps you can pursuade them to lighten up.

It grows slow enough that it may be able to creep up on them without much notice. At least you can defend it bit by bit (aw, it's not that long yet).
