2 years growth = trim
Posted by Squall on November 14, 2002 at 11:58:48: Previous Next
It is exactley 2 years since I started growing my hair so I will get it evened out even though I'm reluctant to trim but have to because all it does is break, and a large proportion of my hair is very short compared to the rest so it needs strenghening in order to groe longer.
It has been 2 years since I've been to a hairdresser so I'm very aprehensive.
My hair is shoulder length, but very stragley at the moment. I am aiming for terminal length so a trim every two years won't hurt will it? thanks for any feedback ^_^

If your hair looks like it needs a trim, and it looks uneven and unhealthy...by all means a trim is a good idea.
Be careful who you select and be VERY firm about how you want it cut. State upfront that you will not pay if they don't follow your instructions.
If you know any longhairs in your area ask them for a reference. Some stylists take it upon themselves to cut what they want...not what you want.

10 inches from my friend's hair. She used to have waist-length hair and wanted to cut the ends. She had one of her mom's friends, who supposedly was a professional hair stylist, come over to her house for her "trim". When she was done she had shoulder length hair. She was upset to say the least. She told me this over the phone so I haven't seen it yet, but I can imagine it must feel horrible. Personally, I guess I'd feel betrayed and disrespected. So anywho, the moral of the story is to be very careful and suspicious of the stylist you select.

This woman claimed to be a 'professional'? How the hell do you confuse 10 inches of hair with spit ends? She needs to have her credentials examined.

LOL. I have to agree! But then again I wouldn't trust a stylist who makes house calls.

This is the styleist that my friend recomended and when she went and got a trim I thought she didn't have her hair cut at all. I've asked for the same styleist as she had so hopefully it will be ok. Anyway My hair will just break and be short and crappy if I don't get it cut so the odds are kinda in my favour. Thanks for the warning.

I saved up enough money to go to an expensive styleist so hopefully they won't screw it up and if they do there will be hell to pay!

A lot of places will charge men less than they do women and trims aren't as expensive as full cuts/styling . You can always ask before sitting in the chair.

Yeah be very detailed in what you say to the stylist. The one I go to asks before she cuts :).
What's up in general? Add me to MSN if you still wanna talk about music and stuff.

Tell the cutter the specific words "ends evened up" and "I'm going for maximum length" so they know that you are trying to grow it longer and not just getting it cut shorter. Don't let them start until they acknowledge that they understand this.

Thanks I will keep that in mind. Because it took ages to get to this point and it will probably take a whole lot longer to achieve my goal.

Cutt your own. Its really not that hard if you want to just get a slight trim. I usually just cutt off a 4th of a inch every 3 months. Have a friend perhaps help you. Sometimes my grandma does it for me, but she's a beautition lol
