Growing mah hair out... Just wondering what's to become of my bangs... As it is, they go down most of the length of my nose (the odd strand or two that isn't as curled as the rest goes a bit below my nose), so they're growing amongst the rest of my hair, but are still not long enough to stay out of my face when I part my hair or slick it back (I must wear a bandana to keep it all constrained). Granted, I'm not about to go get them snipped or anything, but I'm just curious: When all of one's hair does become substantially long enough, is he to have the bangs trimmed, or would it be more advisiable to keep them intact since the added length would mean that they could be parted and KEPT aside with the rest of one's hair? I just thought to ask since I've noticed that many women that have shoulder-length hair have had their bangs trimmed (the length of the bangs is not at all symmetrical in length to the hair at the sides and back). Isn't having one's bangs cut at such disproportionare length to the rest of your hair like getting a mullet (long at the back, short in the front)? Maybe not, as I'm guessing the hair on the sides exempts the style from being classified as such.

And for all those who thought I was referring to 'bangs' in a verbal sense of the word... Maybe its time to seek out a new message board *G*

  I am amazed by the idea that a man with bangs has a mullet. A mullet has short hair way beyond just bangs. Any trimming you do will slow the growth of bangs. I am growing mine out right now and they are getting to the annoying stage- long enough to start getting in my eyes, but not long enough to go in the ponytail or behind the ears. Some men may like to keep short bangs, but most tend to grow them long with the rest of the hair.

  You can do three things, and the first two will mean you really don't have "bangs" anymore because bangs are by definition combed forward and reasonably short:

  • Grow your bangs out long and part your hair, so they go off the sides. If you do this, most longhairs end up with a middle part because with heavy hair (and long hair eventually becomes heavy) gravity favors a part at the top of your head. In the awkward stage, a bandanna will work well to hold your hair down with a center part, because it doesn't take long for your hair to get there from your part line.
  • Comb your bangs and all your hair straight back. Again, gravity will argue for a center part here, eventually.
  • Comb your bangs forward, and trim them above your eyes, because hair in your eyes is not practical. This will not be a mullet style because mullets are trimming everything on top, not just the first inch or two (2-5 cm). You will still have long hair which can come down over your ears and clear down to your shoulders there, for example, while a mullet wearer generally will not.
