FROCKcoats? Capes, BOOTs and YOU?
Posted by LucksKind on November 24, 2002 at 18:12:09: Previous Next
Frockcoats (or even a cape in some cases) look fantastic on Longhairs. Fits right in with the length.
Add a nice pair of Boots to that and you would turn
a head or 2 (I saw a guy dressed this way and people thought
he must be a celebrity of some kind).
Would YOU ever wear a frockcoat/cape?
OR, if that is too much for you, how about a Long coat with boots?
If not, how far WOULD you be willing to go?

I own the following:
Civil War Coat - by Kristi Smart designs
17th Century Edwardian Poet Shirt - from International Male. I own both the Rayon/nylon version in white (shown), and one in black velvet (not shown).
Pirate Shirt - from International Male. I own one in black, but the cuffs button up instead of lace up.
Madeira Lace-up Shirt - from International Male. Again, mine is black.
Finally, since I hadn't managed to find a pair of these until tonight, I've been wearing a pair of Dr. Marten's 20-eyelit fitted calf black boots as a substitute.
I actually got the coat from a retailer out in Hollywood, CA. Everything else I ordered direct from the sources I listed above.
Since the topic of the post is Frock coats and capes, if any of you are interested in purchasing one online, here's a list of clothing stores that I frequent:
Kambriel - Designs for the eerily beautiful
Gypsy Moon - Enchanting clothing
Black Sunrise Gothic Jewelry and Accessories
A Note on the Civil War Coat

I own the one pictured on the top right of the page, not the one the man in the lower right is wearing.

Much too bad that everyhting is prohibitively expensive and probably in American dollars :P
And I'm skeletally thin so I would look amazing in one too :(

That was my reaction the first time I saw one a few years ago... hehehe...
A month later I had one.
:)

Most of the stores I listed are actually in the UK. The Civil War coat is, in fact, produced here in the States, however. Mine cost around $170 with shipping.

No doubt.

I have a couple of Frock Coats, and a few more that I still want :)
I wear them with Jeans and a Tshirt (or Henley) though. I like the clash between 19th and 21st century dress. And yeah, you're right, Frocks are the awesome long haired male accessory.

Oh, the Frock Coat with Jeans is a truly GREAT L(.)(.)K!
A nice contrast of the past and the present, as you say!

I don't have a picture of it, but I own a black wool cape that is about floor length. The inside is red satin. I wear it whenever it's cold enough, despite the occasional taunts I get (Hey, it's not Halloween anymore).
My only complaint about it is that the hood is a little bit too big. The maker of it told me it's designed to be that way. OTOH, he's a good 9 inches taller than me.
FROCKcoats? Capes and YOU?... WoW!!!

It's FABULOUS! I'm green with envy...that hair is beautifully done too!

Let me just be clear. The person in the photo is the person who made my cape. I don't have a picture of the cape itself.

I'd probably do it, but, mainly to prevent the kilt from getting too wet on a rainy day...

I could only see myself in a frock-coat and cape if I was going to a fancy dress party. I dress like your Mr. Average-Buzzcut, only I have long hair! It can be done!
