Well, I guess it's finally time for me to go public. It's been about 6 months since my last haircut, and I've been hanging around this board for much of that time. I am an 18 year old college student, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any particular styling advice for someone who's begining to feel the awkward stage? I have fortunately been blessed with the gift of not caring what anyone around me thinks of my hair, but sometimes it does things that just piss me off.

My hair is 5 inches in the front, 3-4 on the sides and back. Maybe I'll post a pic some time. Well, any help would be appreciated.

and things will be different & much better...trust me....
The only tip I can give you is this:
During the AwkwardStage™ you are going to have to be something
into your hair (after shampooing & even conditioning) like a gel
or something.
Once you comb/style your hair...touch it as little as possible
or it WILL get POOFy all over again...

I did something that only wound up guaranteeing much scrutinty from my friends (grin):
I'd wet all of my hair down, brush it straight back, and then load it up with hairspray. It literally could not move. I looked like Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. All of my friends just called me "Helmet Head". I didn't care though. I was determined to grow it, and nothing else I tried was nearly effective in keeping my hair out of my face and flying out everywhere.
I did that for the better part of a year, until my hair was finally long enough to collapse under its own weight and couldn't "fly out" anymore.
Here's the end result, from a pic I had taken about 3 years ago.

Hey Big Bob,
I think we're around the same length. I nearing 4 1/2 inches in front and 3 1/2 on sides and back. It'll be interesting to see a pic. I have curly/wavy hair, fairly fine in texture, and loving the beginning of this awkward stage!
