Maintenance Cut/More men growing?

I recently went for my first ‘maintenance’ cut after approximately 7/8 months growth. I must say I was a little aprehensive letting anyone touch my hair; let alone get close to it with a pair of scissors! The fact that my hairdresser used to be a longhair comforted me little…
I swim regularly and thought my hair was getting a little dry. To top it off I found my first split end (I always had it too short before to get split ends). So thought it would be time for a maintenance cut. I think I lost half an inch of hair but I am happy with the result. I trimmed the mullet a little and left the rest of my length intact. Having extremly thick hair (I think I could give red heads a run for their money) my hairdresser also thinned out some of it.
I know some people vouch for the ‘don’t cut it at all’ while growing the hair out, I just wanted to add my comments to the debate if you want to call it that. I got a trim, and I’m happy with it! I’ll eventually post some progress pics once I can get the hair to stay behind the ears (another few months and I should be there). I don't think i'll go for another maintenance cut until another 7-8 months go by which would bring me at the 1.5 year mark.
I once again wanted to say hello and thanks to all the other members of the board who take the time to post and reply. This board has been a great resource and as my hair gets longer and longer I feel more and more at ease posting ;-)
On a side note to the “more long hairs in schools” post, would anyone care to comment on long hair coming back into style? I’ve been discussing it with a longhaired friend of mine. I seem to think there are a lot more men that are letting their hair grow out these days. My friend a longhair thinks that it's all in my head since i notice them more now that i'm also growing mine out.
on a side note both my roommates are letting theirs grow also. I’m sure our neighbors think we’ve stepped out of some 70’s time warp…
Cheers folks! and hello to all the other 8/9 month folks out there!
ME!

Thanx for that great post!
As to whether or not a guy growing his hair should have TRIMS or not...
it's really up to the individual and his hair...
Some men REALLY DO need some 'touch-ups' because their Awkward Period® is...
just TOO HORRIBLE...a real HOUSE OF HORRORS™ and nobody should
force themselves to suffer NEEDLESSLY or UNwillingly...
Good Luck!
L(.)(.)KING forward to your pics!

Actually I didnt fear the awkward stage, as I've been there a good part of my life haha, until I was 18 I would always cut it before it got down my nose, but practically never before then. (Now I'm 20) I decided against cutting the hair after shaving it for some stupid reason in summer 1999 after my graduation from high school (it was NOT to conform).
Well anyway I didnt touch it until about a year later where I was convinced to cut it a bit (still wanted to keep most of the lenght, but not like a trim) so I ended up losing 1 or 2 inches in the process. Ever since then I didnt let anyone cut my hair and wont until a looooooooongg time (I made plans for 6 year growth which would be 3 foot, before deciding what next: trim to that lenght, or go on). I've done 22 months and it should be 2 years by February (in terms of growth).
There's a thing here, that is still in the mind of those who think longhairs should only be girls: they have been told (or taught), as children, that being different would make people reject them for that difference, so they try to conform to what others await from them (guys with short hair, girls with long hair)
but now now, when you understand they're only trying to brainwash you with this stuff: you can be yourself, and be how you want to be, have long hair as a guy if you want, people might find it weird but if you really got rid of that conformity brainwashing then you won't care for that.
I like how having long hair feels and I just hate not being able to do anything with it. Guys with short hair would tell me they like their short (or buzzed) hair cause it takes less care. Yeah so what, what if I don't mind caring for my hair, putting shampoo, conditioner, brushing it and checking it now and then is all it takes, are they really that lazy or just afraid?
lazy or just afraid?

Probably a little of BOTH!
Yeah, ometimes, under certain circumstances, being a Longhair
takes MORE courage than any 'conformist' could ever muster uP!
