Men's long hair popularity questions.

A webpage about men's long hair mentioned about 2 to 5 percent of men have long hair (shoulder length or longer). Is that info still current? Is the popularity turning around from its lowest point or is it still falling? About how many percent of the men wore long hair when it was at its peak and is there a chance it would come back in the near future?

Where I live the popularity of long hair on men seems to be declining.
I wonder when long hair was at its peak? The '60s? I've also been told the early in '70s it was more commonly seen among the everyday population, as opposed to exclusively just in the hippie scene. I don't remember, since I wasn't born yet! But I do seem to remember seeing a lot more long-haired guys 5 or more years ago than I do now.
I sure do wish it would become more popular again.

Long hair seems to be gaining popularity in UK. I look around and notice a lot of men in their 30's and 40's with hair about the same length as mine, i.e. 13 month's growth. Most rock bands have at least one long-ish haired member, and there's definitely a dwindling of buzzcuts and shaved heads around these parts.
Cheers, Barry

I'd never payed much attention before, however there are more longhaired men than i'd have thought, where i am in the UK(Nottingham). Strangly though, there aren't many guys with longhair at my college, which is the place where you'd expect to find a higher than normal amount of longhaired lads...
The trend for very short hair styles as been prominant for the past 5 years or so here, which puts up a large barrier for longhair becoming more popular. When medium-length hair styles, such as "curtains" were more popular, it would be more easier for people to switch to a long style. As it is, the "trend followers" would have a tough time of meeting any trends for longhair. I don't see, or perhaps notice, many men who appear to be growing their hair, or with a medium-length style.

hmmm I think where I am at short hair is more in, I used to have long hair myselft back in the early 90's. I got alot more dates with longer hair than short hair. I only know one person who has long hair and he is in the hard rock stuff. I think it will come back around however. Longer hair can been nice looking I think it the correct amount of time and care is put into it. But I think alot of guys think they can do the same old slapsome gel in and go routine and it comes off shabby

When I was in school in the early-mid 70's 80% of the boys had long hair and 99% had hair long enough to cover their ears. at the time most men 18- mid 20's were in Viet Nam so their hair was of course military length. Those who were home I think had hair that was at least longish (over ears). maybe 1/3 of all men under 30 not in the military had shoulder length hair at that time but 30 seems to have been the cut off age (pun not intended) because just about every guy over 30 at that time had short hair. by the time I was in High school (mid to late 70's) hair gradually started to get shorter but more and older men had longer hair. it kind of became more even across age lines. After that it has been kind of down hill. some big hair in the 80's but mostly not as long as in the 70's. I would have to say that 1970-1977 is the peak period if you dont count those in the military. We seem to be at the point now that we were in late 50's early 60's in mens hair except for the occasional long hair. Around here it seems about 1% of men have long hair (shoulder length)
