CHEMICAL STRAIGHTENING

My hair is about a foot long all the way around, and halfway down each strand it's wavy. It doesn't look too bad, but I've been considering getting it chemically straightened at a salon for about sixty bucks. What are your opinions on straightening? Will it ruin my hair, and will I greatly regret it?
Thanks,
JC

If you strighten it for 60 bucks with regular products you'll cry every night after the second week for at least a month.
If you wanty to get straight hair, get the Bio Ionic straightener, just a few salons carry it, and its worth its expensiveness (250-350)

Did I mention it's permanent? Hope that's not bad either.

Chemical straightening is like a perm, except the hair is "permed" straight instead of curly. The chemicals can be very damaging to hair and dry it out. They pentrate the outside of the hair and break chemical bonds inside the hair, and then reform the bonds with the hair straight. If you have nice healthy looking hair now, you very likely won't after using the chemical method.
If you really want to try it, see if they can just straighten the wavy part at the end, so even if that part gets damaged you could cut it off and still have some healthy hair left.

I personnally had good luck with straightening, especially while it was growing out. My hair is VERY curly, and when it was shorter, it tended to stick out, puff up, and just plain annoy me. When I got the straightening, it didn't make a HUGE difference, but it helped some.
Some people find that straighteners dry out their hair, making it frizzy and unmanagable. I was lucky, in that it actually improved the texture and quality of my hair.
