Vinegar-like 'aroma' in my hair

Hi there. Seen a few things now about the frequency of washing hair and that too much washing can damage it.
I have had shoulder-length hair (about 12-14 inches) for the last couple of years and I have found that I must wash my hair every day. If I leave it, it will be OK in the morning but by the time it gets to about midday I seem to get this strange, vinegar-like smell in my hair and it starts to get really greasy and looks horrible.
Does anybody else get this strange artefact?
My solution has simply been to wash it every day. I used the softer shampoos like the Pantene series (clarifiers make it so dry that I end up pulling half of it out trying to get the comb through it) and wash mostly the ends because they get dry and split while it still looks like a grease pad on the top.

Well this post has been unanawered for a while, so i give your question a go. Is the smell of vinegar overwhelming?? Or is a musty smell?? Noone should HAVE to wash their hair everyday...thats just ungodly.....(im blathering cause Im thinking what to say) have you looked at your diet, perhaps you could begin to take a multi-vitamin, perhaps centrum, you know..trying to change your internal chemistry. then take a look at your haircare regime.....instead of hot (which i assume you use) try cold, (i know that sounds insane, but cold makes your hair less tangly and actually feels good, I myself just lean over the bathtub.)If all else fails, stop soaking your head in that bucket of vinegar!!! Just kidding....so two things here: Balance internal chemistry with a simple multi-vitamin, and changing your hair care regime. Or bite the bullet, let your hair "stink" for a week and DON"T wash it...maybe your hairs oils are just overworked and need a recuperation period to act normally again..just brush hair to distribute the oils and wait a week. Sorry, otherwise i have no idea. :)

and it could be due to much sweating...
I wonder if they sell a deodorant shampoo or conditioner?

You are probably right. It does tend to happen in the summer but also my metabolic rate is so high that it has to be almost -10 degrees before I will start to feel the cold, and until I feel the cold, unfortunately I do sweat. I think I'll stick to my current system - seems to be working OK. Thanks for the replies.

Use only a very tiny amount of shampoo every day. Don't rub it in, just sort of put it on your hair. Rinse with cool water. Use conditioned.
Come on guys, you know most girls wash their hair everyday. Their hair usually looks amazing, so take a hint.

Yes, I get the vinegar aroma. I never really smelled it on myself until I smelled it in my hair. But since, I have noticed there are times that the same aroma is on my skin (I smelled it on my own arm).
It is from our sweat my friend. Our internal chemistry is causing this scent to accompany our secretions. What causes it, I'm not sure.
