Growing out an under cut

Ive had an under cut for about a year and want to grow it all out without cutting it but its starrtng to look weird because i have to tie my hair back for work. when i do the shorter part puffs out a little.
Any advice on what to do with it?

Hmm, I guess you could gel it all back including the sides and put the rest in a pony tail. I don't think it would be that noticeable then. How long are the shortest hairs in your undercut? Oh, by the way, are you norwegian?

The short part is about an inch.......im not norwegian

if you have dead straight hair, it will be alot of work, but you can probably get away with using lots of gel on the undercut area and as it gets longer working it into the long hair. Otherwise, considering you have to tie it back, it would be best to start over. (NOTE: YOU DON'T HAVE TO START OVER COMPLETELY! don't chop all your hair off, just get a really long bowl cut type thing and let the undercut catch up that way you will already have a big head start and it won't take as long until you can tie it back)

A while back you posted a message about not understanding why people
would cut their hair to grow out an undercut (at least I think it was
was you) and somebody left a post about how they had grown out their
undercut with little problem. I tried to find that post but couldn't.
His advice seemed good to me but I don't remember it all.
