Ponytail Length Question

Does anyone have a general idea of how long your hair needs to be so it can be pulled back in a full pony tail? Just trying to assess my progress and how much longer I have to go...

I'd say the best low number to grab at for a decent hold of all your hair would be 10 inches. When I first come to this board I remember reading 9 inches, but I'd say 10 for a comfortable hold with no hairs falling out of the band. BTW, Fitmus, I'd like to see a current pic of your hair, bro! Peace!!

That's true, I guess it has been a while, huh?! Ok, I'll take one over the next few days. I'll have to take it when it's a bit wet, though. When it dries, it's absolutely out of control! My length is about 5 inches now. Talk to ya soon...

At first I thought you were asking how long our pony tails were. My braided tail from the back of my neck to the bottom is a little over 16". I'm not sure how the long the hair is from root to end.

: Whenever I ponytail my hair, it is 30" long. Go to www.fundrop.com. it's okay for a guy to have long hair

I've posted pics in the past when you could upload one right here.
Any idea how to post one now? The upload function doesn't work anymore.

You have to find a website that you can upload the pics to, then put the link to the pic below.
Be careful though, some won't allow a pic to be linked to from another site. Bandwidth and all.

Yeah, I used Sony's Image Station (I think it's www.imagestation.com) and it worked ok. It's too bad the upload feature doesn't work anymore. It's a bit of a pain to do now, so I understand if you don't post, at least anytime soon!

I recently calculated it would take another nine months to get all my hair into a tail. That would be eighteen months of growth. I have mostly straight hair.

It relies greatly on the starting length of the hair as well as its type (curly vs. straight). I was able to get mine in a 'hook bun' after about 12 months of growth and then in a pony tail about 2 or 3 months afterwards. I used to wear 'business cut' short hair prior to that.

Hi. It's Rick here. I would say fist-length: take your fist and pull your hair back from head straight out and put ponytail holder (covered elastic band) around where the end of your fist (the right end) touches the back of your head where your ponytail starts. Don't use plain uncovered elastic band because they will cause breakage in the hair shafts and you don't want that.
