Sitting here with olive oil in my hair
Posted by Sherri on March 20, 2003 at 13:54:28: Previous Next
Beginning to question my sanity! LOL
I'm not going outside today, so I figured I'd give my hair a treat. I started out with conditioner in my hair for 45 minutes, rinsed, applied olive oil. Not sure when I'll rinse the olive oil out. Not that it'll rinse out. I'll wash it tomorrow, but for today it's getting a nice douse of oil.
what about mayo?

Olive Oil really clingS to hair....silicone clings...
I never believed that oily hair could be equated with MOIST hair.
It never worked for me...GOOD hairs are hairs that work together well
as a group.
Beautiful hair is hair that cooperates...moves together in
generally the SAME direction.
Oily hair can actually make you look like a freak dog...
Sometimes a light gel can equal at ton of oil.
mayo stays on the sandwhiches for now

That's what I wanted. I conditioned for 45 minutes, then put on the oil to cover the hair, keeping the conditioning in the hair. I don't plan to go anywhere today, so greasy hair for the day I don't mind. I'll be washing it tomorrow morning.
Plus, isn't a "hot oil treatment" oil? They say it's good for your hair. They also say misting the ends of your hair with oil is good and protects it.

I don't know the technical answers to those questions, but your scalp naturally produces oil to protect your hair, so everyone in the world already has oil on their hair!

Could you explain the Mayo thing? I've heard Rokker mention it recently, and i noted that it's full fat Mayo that you need... But i'd like to know a few more things, if i was to try this.
For instance:
How long do you leave the Mayo in for?
Do you shampoo/condition afterwards, and possibly before?
Do you wear a shower-hat type thing over your head whilst the mayo is there? Or possible a damp towel?
I know that i could probably figure these things out through experimentation, but i have a feeling i'd manage to make a mess, and have to explain to everyone how i put mayonaise on my hair... They'd probably think i was going insane :)

I've never tried mayo on my hair. I have the feeling that
somehow it might make me feel FOOLish...he..he
Especially if someone knocked at the door.
Anyway, my hair is soooo thick and strong tht
somebody could build a bridge with it.
Just suppose it made my hair thicker & stronger...and totally UNmanageable!!!
hmmmmm...plus I noticed that Aussie put vegetables into some of its products!
What a mix...

Leave it in for about an hour.
I usually don't wash in advance. Sometimes I do. Makes no difference though. Yes, definitely wash afterwards and then follow your normal after wash routine. Shampoo and condition as usual after the mayo.
I wear a shower cap to cover it while in my hair.
The ingredients in the mayo, especially the fat, do more for your hair than any conditioner ever could.

Yeah...people I work with don't get it either. If you're self-conscious, do it when no one's around!
Try it. I'll bet you'll like the results.

Ok, thanks :)
I'll pick up some mayonaise next time i go shopping, and give it a try. It would be stupid not to, when it only costs the price of a bottle of mayo(which you can eat if you don't like the results), and an hour of your time :-)

It's not a waste of your time either. You can do this while watching TV or ironing clothes (that's when I do it) or doing anything you normally do anyway.
Let us know your results.
