inspiration for your long hair

I am 22 and growing my hair long for the first time. I have been growing for 6 months it's about 5 inchs long. I want it about shoulder length.
I would like to ask you all what was the inspiration behind growing or maintaining your long hair? For me, who never had long hair before, it is due to a weird, recent, facination in the 1970's and rock music; I recently took up the guitar. The look of the 70's somehow gripped me as looking so cool. When men looked like revolutionary fighters is a lot more interesting than boring short hair ( i am not gay by the way I just admire the look ).

WWF/WWE wrestler shawn michaels. He had really cool looking hair so I just decided to grow mine. Been wanting to grow it for a long time but scared of the awkward phase. Before i didnt like long hair because the people i saw with it didn't take care of it or themselves and looked plain bad. Then i saw that you can look good with long hair or even better than you would with short if you take care of it. I been growing mine since a few days before november but got my ends trimmed on february which yes was a mistake but oh well. Right now it's a little over 4 inches on top. Growing from short, probably 1 inch on top. I take care of it so much since it is so important for a good end result. My goal is a little below shoulder length.

Hi. In replying to your request as to who inspired my long hair growth, I've had my hair long since age:16 (mid-60s) when draft dodgers came up to Vancouver,Canada, my hometown, from U.S. to avert
the Vietnam War. I had it shorter for work after H.School grad, and have had it long and short at different times ever since 1970. I like it better long. Right now it's mid-back length and growing preferably to waist-length, my goal. It takes energy to properly care for but I
enjoy learning new wisdom about hair care online and from (mostly long-haired women and my female hairdresser) in my life. Good Luck in
your hair growing phase!

Hmm, not sure about inspiration. I always knew my hair should be long for as long as I can remember. It is something deep inside my sense of identity.

I have a few inspirations. Maybe the earliest was Jaye Davidson's role &appearance as "Ra" in the movie "Stargate". Then around the same time were the movies "Interview With A Vampire" and "Legends of the Fall" featuring long haired guys. I think that Crisue, Pitt and Banderas helped make long hair a little more acceptable that year.
Secondly, sociology and gender issues classes have helped me understand women's issues and expectations out upon them. I think that long hair is a tiny way of sympathizing with most women who have had to put with long hair most of their lives.
Thirdly, a great looking female track athlete that I work out with on occasion has told me to keep growing. Comments like that are worth a dozen negative comments from my family.

Hmmm... I can list a bunch of my inspirations if you wish...
- The whole 1970's look
- Peter Lindgren (from the band Opeth)
- Mikael Akerfeldt (also from Opeth)
- Hansi Kursch (from the band Blind Guardian)
- My long haired friends (specifically my best friend Sam, who I once jokingly dared to let his hair grow and he hasn't looked back in the 2 years since)
Those are my major influences, although over the years I've had a lot more. I've been trying to grow long hair for the past 4 years, but being only 17 now, it was difficult. I was actually FORCED to get haircuts up until February 2002, and I've been growing since then without much resistance.
