What shampoo and conditioner do you guys use? What you guys think of herbal essences? Pretty good for an over the counter product. No harmful stuff. I use the herbal essence anti dandruff shampoo and the american crew conditioner ( expensive but wow is it good). May try their shampoo also. I try to take care of my hair as best I could. The goal is to grow it but grow well, not long with split ends like if a ford f-150 lightning ran over it several times.

...about salon products. They seem overpriced to me. But, to be honest with you, I'm not sure of the difference, if any, between salon and non-salon products.

They are really good. They contain higher quality ingredients. Most over the counter products have harmful things like
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. Only over the counter i kinda like is herbal essences. Pantene shampoos have silicon particles which are bad for your hair. Their conditioners I really like though. Also over the counter shampoos tend to leave residue.
I guess...

...I need more proof. As a natural doubter, I need to know why the ingredients are harmful, what exactly is "residue", what are the harmful affects of any residue, how much residue is harmful, how much residue comes from the product I'm using, etc. And frankly, I don't have the time or motivation to research it myself, especially since I'm achieving good enough results from what I'm using. At this point, I'm just going by personal experience...ie-if my hair looks and feels healthy (no split ends, etc), it's good enough for me. And if I could do that by spending 1/2 of what I'd spend at a salon, it's even better.
Taking what we've learned from past posts, many of us report great results from different products. Therefore, I think it comes down to this: use what works for you, be it salon or non-salon products.

I know what you mean. I've tried to find out about silicone (dimethicone) and detailed explanations of why it is supposed to be bad for hair in the long run but have yet to find it. That one source "hair-news" plus some reviewer ratings on sites such as epinions.com are the only places I have found comments about silicone. I tell ya, using a product containing silicone makes a big, positive difference to the manageability of my hair versus a shampoo that does not. L'Oreal contains dimethicone but uses the gentler sodium laureth sulfate as the surfectant.
I obtained some samples of Aussie Mega shampoo and conditioner yesterday and I'm looking forward to giving these products a try.
You'll have...

They tell you why the silicone particules are bad. They cause damage over time.

: What shampoo and conditioner do you guys use?"
I am currently using Aussie Moist Shampoo & Moist Conditioner.
And though I do realize that everybody's hair IS different and some
will not like these same products...
right now, I am very pleased with the results I'm getting
even when I use them every day!
After the shampoo/conditioning, I add a couple of tsp. of
l'Oreal (Studio) Melting Gel which blends in, disappears nicely and
produces a great shine right.
May change products in the future--who knows--but these products work
for me NOW!
A reminder to Long-hairs...

Remember, we have to be especially careful about harmful (short and long-term) effects from bad hair products. Short hair gets cut off regularly, so the negative effects are seldom seen. We have several weeks/monthes/years growth that can not easily be recouped or repaired. I had a friend that worked for a high-end products distributorship and he swears there IS a difference in salon and cheap products. Something about the molecular structure. Don't go broke over your hair, but do take some care in selecting products.
