Growing out hair
Posted by deadafi11 on April 08, 2003 at 15:36:02: Previous Next
I started growing my hair in August/September of 2002, so I'm guessing I'm in the akward stage. I haven't had problems with dry hair, but my hair in general deosn't look too nice. I've visted some hair sites to get info, and was wondering if anyone has any other tips. Also, my hair is in one style all the time that I can't really control.I've been trying to get it to go back or split in the middle, but everytime i do this my hair doesnt stay or it poofs strangely and looks ugly. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this?

Yes, and it's the patience that you learn by going through the awkward stage that will serve you as you continue to grow your hair longer and longer. It's not wasted time or effort.
And I...

i found waiting for my hair to grow out, not only has given me lots of patience, but that patience has carried over to other areas of my life. i.e. more patience with people (of the ignorant variety) and patience with myself. Cause im pretty harsh on myself when i screw up. So you could say growing my own hair has made me a better person. HA!

There are very few people who look ok in the awkward phase (Brandon Boyd is NOT one of them ;) ) so there's little advice I can give you other than the standard stuff, e.g. don't go near any scissors, read the archives, etc. Pick up a relaxing hobby to help calm yourself down in the meantime because your patience WILL be tested to its bloody limit. I recommend the following: boxing, down hill skying, bungee jumping, base jumping, cage fighting and full contact kickboxing. About styling; there's nothing wrong with slicked back hair to keep it in check but for your own sake PLEASE DO NOT PART YOUR HAIR IN THE MIDDLE ! You'll look totally ridiculous forcing a split in the awkward phase (bad enough as it is) while having wavy/curly hair (even worse - I'm speaking from experience). You'll look like you got bumped from the cast of Revenge Of The Nerds because you looked too geeky.
