Prom

My prom is on Friday and my hair is going to be curled. What are the opinions of that? My girlfriend says that ringlets look good on me and that it'd be good for prom. I've heard people saying that it would be cool. I'm just curious what you all have to say. My hair isn't too long yet, and it's already a tad curly and fluffy, but it's all good.

If you are talking about a "curler set", go for it! BUT...think twice (and maybe don't even act once) if your talking "permanent wave".

It's a curler set. My hair is pretty curly as is, so I'd rather not get a perm.

Go for it...make a statement. Last year I colored (I am a professional stylist) a student's hair to match his prom date's PINK gown. As you can guess, he was the only one who did it; he was the first to ever do it. He made his mark. He and his date were chosen King and Queen of the prom. If anyone else would do it now it would be seen as imitating him--a very sincere form of flattery. So, Pulse, wear those ringlets--and have a great time!! (oh, yeah, I returned him to his natural color first thing Monday morning--per his request.)

Coloring my hair has been something i've had in mind before growing my hair, i have mousey brown hair and was thinking about going blond, just out of curiosity to see what it would look like! but have changed my mind after hearing how coloring damages your hair, or is it just bleaching blonde that does it .?? I have no idea what coloring hair actually does to your hair, so i think stay well away, i've become very careful and definatley don't want to damage my hair in anyway, i already have thick strong hair and i certainly don't want it any more coarse.!!

Dear Friend--
Any chemical treatment may damage the hair somewhat, but the good news about color is that the toner actually imparts some molecules into the hair structure than often gives better body. Don't just bleach your hair, but add a good toner.
Most people's hair contain a good bit of red pigment, and if you do not bleach enough you can get orange hair, which most of us do not like. It is important that you add a toner, and if you go go a beauty supply store you can get some toners that are also called 'DRABBERS,' which are actually blue and green and counteract the orange.
If you have an Eckhard's Drug Store in your area they usually have a monthly rebate book, and often have a good brand of hair color that will be free if you fill out the form and sent in your reciept. ZIf you want to go gradual, get an ash blond. However, also get the DRABBER and add some of that to your mix. If you want to go really blond get the blondest of blond, but make sure you add some drabber.
I'd say, go blond in two steps, dark blond first, and light blond next. Never bo back. In a few months everyone will think you were always blond, especially if you do the transition over the summer.
You will need touch ups, every 6 - 8 weeks, and you will need patience to do it ourself, or a friend to help who can see the back of your head without contortions in the mirrow.
I was a happy blond at 3, my hair darkened, and I decided to be a happy blond at 60. it has not hurt my hair.
THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE. DO NOT SHAMPOO EVERY DAY. SHAMPOO AT LEAST ONCE A WEEKI. IN THE MEANTIME, SIMPLY RINCE YOUR HAIR AND GET THE DUST OUT AND ADD SOME CONDITIONER AND RINCE THAT OUT, AND STYLE. IT IS TOO FREQUENT SHAMPOO THAT HURTS HAIR MOST OFF ALL. ONE NEED NOT SACRIFICE CLINLINESS.

you didn't say if you were getting a salon set, or just a girlfriend's house set. was this her idea and if so how'd she get you into this? how'd it work out for you? what style did you go for? how about an update. hope it was fun.
