Thin Hair

My hair is now quite short - recovering from a No.1 shave!!
It's now about an inch long and each time I have this done I go through a wanting long hair stage - only to give in and go for a football hooligan look.
Facts:
I'm 42 (yesterday!)
I have no grey hair to speak of (yay!)
My hair is thin and lank, always has been.
I have quite a high forehead (brainbox!)
I tend to sweat especially on the forehead.
I'm convinced I'm going bald, and my hair has got thinner at the front, although my mates and barber say it's my imagination! Probably my mid life crisis! Dad never went bald, his hair was the same as mine. I'm not bald, I'm not, I'm not!!!
Anyway, I want my hair to look thicker if I'm gonna do this, and i'm going for the neil young circa 1971 look!! My hero!!
It's been long before, but only because I couldn't be arsed getting a haircut, and it looked long, lank, and well, crap really, but I never looked after it then.
And it seems to really slow down growth wise around the bottom of my ears!
What do think Guys (and Gals)? I'm my own worst judge, super-critical, if it starts looking crap, I'm gonna give in. Need to make it look thicker, less lank and greasy and maybe get it undercut this time?
Help!!
Steve

everyones hairline moves up as you get older. I know rogaine and stuff is only for people who are losing hair on top, not for people who have just a raised hairline.
btw, I sweat on my forehead too, around the hairline

when you get it a bit longer. Use a shampoo that claims to make hair "look fuller" (there may be some trial and error though) and maybe try blow dying and 'teasing' it to fluff it out. Just get into a routine.

"Teasing," or back-combing, is very damaging to hair, don't do it. Blow-drying, ditto, if you're going to use a hair dryer, use a low setting to minimize damage. Try a volumizing shampoo, and you might try an alcohol-free mousse to style, mousse usually adds volume. Also, if you can find a trustworthy stylist, see if a little layering might bring out some volume in your hair - tell him or her you want to show length, but with a fuller appearance. A good haircut can make a big difference. Good luck!
1st of all...Happy Birthday...

If you use one of those shampoos meant for oily or 'normal' hair...
that is, the kind that does NOT moisturize...
your hair will definitely fluff up and look fuller.
Experiment!
& then if you absolutely CANNOT stand it...go ahead and cut...
that is, do what is right for YOU...
Good Luck

If you get an undercut, it will make your hair look even thinner, because you'd be removing the bulk from the sides & back. My advice is to just grow it out the same length all over, and consider a shampoo for thin/fine/limp hair. good luck.

Well a guy with my problem (I waited for so long *gg*). Everybody here seemed to have very thick hair but as I also have thin hair it is good to find other people with the same problem :)
What you can try is to cut your hair in layers, this will make them look bigger.

Fellow fine-hair-types,
Same hair type (very straight, fine, oily-by-the-end-day, shampoo
everyday type hair)
Two years younger than you (and a happy [late] birthday to you)
Go for the long hair, your hair type is meant for length. I wash
mine everyday with Aussie Mega (not the Moist - don't need it) and
small amount of conditioner and it feels like fine silk.
Don't cut it :-)

Yeah, fine is a better word than thin!

Cheers mate!

It's just it's so lank when it gets long! And it doesn't look right at the front/fringe/parting. Lacks any body and just hangs limply when it's not plastered to my forehead with sweat!
: Don't cut it :-)
Timing might be better, it's should be longish by the end of the summer so over the winter I won't be troubled by weat so much!
Thanks for the support!
