problem regarding hair in front

My hair is approaching 9 inches all over, however in some places the hair is not near as long. The worst and most noticable place this is happening is at the bangs where most of the hair there is about 2 inches shorter than the rest of my hair..and the first layer of hair at the hairline above my forehead is only about an inch or 2 in length! I would probably be close to having a ponytail now if it wasnt for this problem. If I hold my hair on top back simulating a ponytail, a bunch of hairs in front fall forward barely reaching my eyebrows. I am 18 so male pattern baldness is unlikely, though not out of the question. As coarse as my hair is, and as good of care as I take of it, I don't suspect breakage either. If anyone can offer an explination or advice or a similar situation it would be greatly appriciated. I read on the longhair site that the hair in front and on the neck line have the shortest terminal length, but I didnt expect it to be THIS drastic..
Could it be...

some new hairs just growing out?
Anyway, no matter what you do it will be a while before those little front
hairs get longer...and they WILL!
You are wrong though, about those hairs having to reach 'tail-length'
to be under control.
Because when they are maybe just 3 inches long, they WILL begin
to 'blend' in nicely with the other, longer hairs and sort of disappear.
For now, all I could recommend would be some kind of gel to hold them
down and maybe force them to cling to the other longer hairs.
Let us know about your progress in this mattr.
& Good Luck!

It seems odd that a bunch of new hairs would be in the same place, but maybe its just more visible in the front with less hair surrounding them? Hopefully they will get longer as time progresses.

That makes sense. Its just the hair in the very front that I'm concerned about..as there arent any longer hairs in front of them to hold the loose hair back, so they just fall forward with the growth direction. I guess leave-in conditioner and gels are my friends now.

I guess I should invest in some non-alcoholic gel, as I'm not sure about the stuff I still have.

Will do. I should have a decent tail in a few more months so I will post an update around then. maybe sooner.
