Tell me it's going to get better!

It's now been 10 months. I went in for a trim to get rid of the split ends. According to my hair dresser you need to do that, otherwise your hair will just break off and stop growing. I've been trying the behind the ears look, but now with summer finally hear it's driving me nuts. Everytime I move the wind blows it in my face. If I start doing some work I sweat like a pig and don't get me started on wearing my motorcycle helmet. I've never had long hair and decided to test the diversity rules of corporate america. Just making sure it's all worth it.

I don't know - but it seems that unless your hair is really damaged I do not see any reason to get trims. Look around at some of the guys with long hair ... do you really think it got that way from regular trims? Hairdressers rely on people to get haircuts to stay in business ... thre are those exceptions who will understand and accept your goals but I think most want you to keep coming back as often as can ... CUTTING hair is how they make their living.
I have not had any trims since I started growing my hair out again last summer due to an undercut disaster. Yes I have those bad hair days but I just go with it as I know if I go in for a trim I will be taking steps backwards instead of forwards. IMHO you can still grow long hair while also getting regular trims ... it just takes longer.

Never trust a barber. Never trust a stylist with scissors. You can only rely on stylists that are known for their reapect to long hair, and those you can trust. Even women are victims of these ruthless hair choppers.
My mother is growing out her hair a bit. The have given her 5 "maintenance trims" in less than a year. Its spooky, expensive and not worth any of it. I prefer to spend that money in good quality hair products, and get any hair service in the places I buy them, that way they don't get the urge to trim, layer or thin out my hair.
too right

Oh, I agree entirely. My mother does exactly the same thing, no matter how much I tell her it isn't worth it, and then she even tries to book me in for them!
Madness.

The desire to be a Longhair is something that wells up from somewhere deep within...
It seems to be a part of your personality...a part of you and who
you are!
Growing your hair for other 'reasons' will just make the whole ordeal
too difficult to bear..and you WILL lose the battle OR...
by the time you get there you'll be so battered & beaten up that you just won't careabout the hair.
At 10 MONTHS you are damned smack in the awkward phase...
IF you were a woman, you could use all kinds of hair pins and assorted
doohickies & doodads in your hair to hold it in place and nake it look & feel
presentable.
But you are not so I have this feeling you are going to slide off
the slippery slopes of the awkward phase and into the sea of conformity...
which is fine if that is you...
So to you be True &...
Good Luck!

Hell, if that's all you're trying to do, just get a mohawk. Save yourself the time and trouble.

Dude, hang in man, it does get better. I went from long hair a few years ago to a buzz to a mohawk, now back to growing it out. I remember those long, hot summer days with hair blowing all around. I finally went to beauty supply house and bought a clear plactic hair band, one of those narrow things you pop on your head to hold the hair down (girls use them mostly). But dude, it worked great, got me through the summer, and, most amazing--I saw lots of other guys with longer hair wearing them too. Girls thought they were hot on guys. Anyway, consider this, man. It worked for me and when my hair's long enough this time, I'll use those hairbands again. They also come in brown "haircolor" too. Josh

Not true, this is a myth, a falsehood, an old wives tale. Trimming makes hair shorter. Not trimming makes hair longer.
I've been trying the behind the ears look, but now with summer finally hear it's driving me nuts. Everytime I move the wind blows it in my face. If I start doing some work I sweat like a pig and don't get me started on wearing my motorcycle helmet.
Seems to me that you're not really enjoying this very much. Sure, sometimes my hair gets in the way too, but it never seems like a very big deal. And besides it is so worth it! Don't feel that way? Maybe you are not truly a longhair.
I've never had long hair and decided to test the diversity rules of corporate america. Just making sure it's all worth it.
Why force yourself to suffer so? Just wear a tutu to work, that will test the diversity rules plenty.
