im not an alien you know!

Ive been growing for 10 months now and consider myself a long(ish) hair. This is the first time ive grown my hair. Do other people get looked at like an alien where they live? I often get the double take now when im out. I live in a shitty borough near manchester,UK where the skin head is the norm. Also do some long hairs perceive a hostility from the war-time older folk who grew up with military hair-cut.
I may be paronoid but im sure i hear parents wispering to there kids that i am a boy not a girl; when about town. Anyone else with similar experiences.

I did get addressed as "Madam" in a hotel in London recently. The waitress was mortified when she realised her mistake.
I found the whole episode amusing....just as well I've got a sense of humour.
That happened to me...

When I was in the real awkward phase and looking down closely at
some digital cameras, the man behind the counter said, "Can I help you, Miss (or was is Ma'am...but I know it wasn't Madamn) anyway,
when I looked up I could tell by the look on his face that he
just felt like hiding under a rock or something.
ODDly, now that my hair is long, nobody has any trouble
in determining my gender...
go figure!

I get a few strange looks now and then. But I got more when my head was shaved than I do now. I also hear the same whispering you speak of from parents to their kids on occasion. Mostly what I hear is from little girls saying "mommy that man has long hair" or something similar. I get far more attention paid to my tattoos than my hair when I wear a sleeveless shirt.
Same thing

Yeah,
I`m in Woodgreen London and it`s the same thing, It`s always those black and asian guys who look at me. I`m kinda asian myself. I just dont give a damn about them. I just ignore`em.
It`s not that you`re an alien, it`s just that they have alien brains

I'm surprised you get that sort of response in/near Manchester. I'm from Manchester myself. Haven't lived there for quite a few years, but I thought most of the UK was pretty unfazeable when it came to hair length, especially if you've only been growing for 10 months!
