A.F.I - Punk Revitalist Band

Anyone here ever heard of them? I just saw a video on the Canadian music video channel, Fuse, and was rather impressed. That's rather awkward, coming from me. I can't stand Punk, or any variation of it.
In any event, something particular about the band caught my eye, and I actually felt genuinely confused as to what I was seeing, at first: Is their vocalist a man or a woman?
I didn't get the clue that he's a man until he reached a point in the song where he nearly whispers a line. But this guy actually has long hair! Shoulder-length, even!
Here's a link to the video I saw on TV. They've got an artist page, featuring more of their videos, there, as well. "The Leaving Song Part II" is the video I saw. Pay especially close attention to his face, and you might better understand why I was initially confused about his gender.
;)
That header should read Revivalist (nt)

I can't stand punk either, but having heard the band's music, they do not posess a punk sound, in my opinion. Punk is too generic a term being thrown around, as is 'metal' and 'alternative'.

I'm still trying to figure out what "Punk Revivalist" means.

His name is Davey Havok...he's beautiful :) and the name of the band stands for a fire inside (www.afireinside.net/). They're from the Berkeley area...and they've always been popular around the punk scene...and now they are mainstream and they've changed their sound.

Davey Havok, AFI's MALE vocalist is the most becautiful human being on the face of the planet. I love him, he is definitely a male (i've seen him in tight leather pants) and they are amazing. way to go.

There are too many genres that try to describe a certain sound, or mood painted by musicians. AFI cannot be summed up in one word, it's a sacrilege to slap a catch-phrase on any band. as soon as people see a certain title that they don't normally listen to, they do just that... don't listen to the band. genres were created by people who have extensive record collections, and fell ill to laziness. instead of using descriptive, beautiful imagery to describe a band's sound, they go the easy route and use one blunt word. PUNK. SKA. we need to kick ourselves upstairs with a really sharp, pointy cowboy boot, and move forward rather than taking strides backwards. some music cannot fit into any category, because labels were not the forethought in the band's creation. new genres are constantly created to label new sounds. why can't we just call it music? (damnit!)
