From curly to "asian" straight

I stumbled across this method a couple of weeks ago, and I'm very
surprised at the results! It's very simple, just:
1. Wash your hair thoroughly
2. Balm it in good, don't be cheap. I use mostly Fructis Garnier, but
it works just as well with a generic noname balm.
3. Rinse, but no too much. Leave a hint of balm in your hair
(experiment with this. I found that to little is better than to
much)
4. Squeeze out all the water, but DON'T DRY IT! Instead, tie it up in
a pony tail and let it dry like that. Takes 5-7 hours for me.
5. Voila! Straight hair! You might want to flatiron the tops though.
This procedure gives the exact same results as my hairdresser, who
charges 25€ for it. I'll try to post some pics.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I have done a similiar process, but when it is humid and I sweat, my hair curls back up again. I haven't used a balm as you suggested though and am not sure if it makes a difference with my scenario.

Yeah, it curls up for me too. Usually takes 2-3 day with "normal wear" though, which I think is amazing considering the miniscule time and effort it requiers.

I too discovered this method recently, when I wanted to go to bed and my hair was still wet, and I thought "let's just tie it back and see what happens". People say that tying your hair back while it is wet will cause damage, so be careful. My experience so far suggests that it's worth the risk.

PS My "balm" was a mixture of Body Shop leave-in conditioner and Frizz-Ease staightening stuff (the details of which I can't remember).
Maybe it's just me...

I see so many posts on this board by people looking to get rid of their curls. I just don't understand it. While I can't say my hair is super ringlet curly, I can say with complete certainty that I get the most positive comments on my hair on days when the curls are prominently displayed and defined. Just food for thought. I think a really well-defined, shiny head of curls implies health and cleanliness because they have to be clean and well cared for to look good. I know it's definitely something that attracts me in a woman's appearance...perhaps that works the other way as well.
Just my two cents. Embrace the curl.

Dan. I couldn't have said it better. Embrace the curl. The Way of the Curl. Im a believer! The longer my hair gets the more it just looks cool. I used to hate curly hair, but i wouldn't have it any other way. God gave you the hair that suits you the best! :)

I have a weird type of curl. It's really thick and dries in a sort of wavey "S" shape, if it weren't so thick It wouldn't be that bad, though.

To me it implies supreme patience. Curly hair through the in-between
stage seems so much more difficult than straight hair.

A lot of people posting on this board are on the first year of their journeys. Also, a lot of people on this board want their har to look as long as possible. Since curly hair restricts visual length, people wish for straight hair so they can get long faster.

Good point...I didn't think of that.

I'd like to see pics of flat ironing one's own hair - do you use
starch too? :-) Just kidding.... I've never seen it done before.
LOL! nt
