Question about hair length in the front

I just have a quick question, how long (in terms of months or length of hair in the front) is the wait before the bangs are long enough to where they can be pulled back (towards the backside of the head) to stay on their own without slicking them back with gel. As of right now, I am about 7 months into growing my hair, and the bangs reach to the tip of my nose. In a movie I saw a hairstyle that would look good on me. It didn't look longer than the awkward "tails" stage in the back, yet the front, when pushed back, seemed to be long enough to stay on its own. If someone could answer my question or tell me the name of this hairstyle, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

Erm... it probably depends on the thickness of your hair too. The rest of your hair might help in holding the front back too. I don't quite get it though.
It may be awhile...

I don't know if I can speak for everyone, but if you're hair's anything like mine, it'll be awhile 'til you'll be able to comb yer bangs away and have them stay that way without artificial restraint. See, I'm already into my 17th month, and I still have that problem. I deal with it by using a bandana.
