Bummed...

Well, it's been a while since I've posted here, but I still check in from time to time [I've been quite busy the past few months].
My hair has been severly damaged [a few months back] from using a cheap shampoo (Suave, if I remember correctly). Anyway, I just cut about two inches off the back (from a tail) -- in the hopes that the hair will grow out OK (my hair is still longer than Shaun michaels', but not by much).
I'm wondering if some of the damage is caused by chemicals that I use at work (an electronics company). We use Lenium and some conformal spray coatings on circuit boards. I'm a little worried that some of the residue could transfer from my fingers to my hair -- causing damage -- though I try to be EXTRA careful to avoid this. My hair just seems to have stopped getting any longer. I certainly hope that I haven't reached my terminal length (about 3 inches above half-back) at the young age of 37 [next week].
Any ideas? Suggestions? Anyone familiar with this problem [bad split-ends for no apparent reason]? I'm at a loss. I use Aussie shampoo and conditioner. I'd like to grow my hair longer, without having to cut the length down -- at least by very much.
In the past, I did everything wrong (blow drying, forcing a brush through my hair, and generally abusing my hair -- several years back) and it kept growing without the split-ends or any problems. I just don't understand what has happened to cause the problems I currently have.
Thanks for reading the long post and any ideas you all might have.
Take care.

Same here. I had long hair years ago, and didn't take very good care of it. Just because I didn't know any better. And with everything I put it through it looked great and kept getting longer. Now that I take care of my hair, it looks like crap and doesn't seem to grow.
I think I'm going to go back to the way I used to do things. Wash it with cheap, harsh shampoo EVERYDAY, brush it wet,not brush the ends out first, etc. Basically just do everything 'wrong'. It worked before, maybe it'll work again.

I've been thinking the same thing [although it doesn't follow logic].
My luck though and it will just get worse!
In those days I was partying hard and going to bars (etc.). Perhaps I should just resume my past activities. I think I was happier back then -- maybe that has something to do with it...

This is just my opinion, but I would definitely add something
like L'Oreal Melting Gel to your still-damp hair after washing & conditioning.
WHY? Because the stuff is very slick and soothing...especially to any
dry, damaged, curly or even kinky hair. Don't ask me how it works
it just does. Plus it keeps my hair moisturized!
All those little flyaways or 'stick-ups' seem more relaxed.
Sort of like a tranquilizer for the hair.
Plus it adds lots of shine to dry-looking hair.
Anyway, in MY hair, at least, the Melting Gel does not ACT like a gel...
but more like a slick moisturizer.
It does all this...plus it rinses out with plain water.
I have a feeling that it could coat and protect your hair from any
chemicals at work or anywhere.
Good Luck!

Coating your hair with something to protect it from said chemicals. I think even a light touch of olive oil (some mix it with their leave in conditioners, others just wet their fingertips and comb through their hair. See, women use any tricks they can to make their hair shiny! LOL). Many buy expensive oils, but I'll stick with the olive oil. It's in my kitchen and isn't as expensive.
You could also try covering your hair while using the chemicals. Bandana, shower cap, swim cap, baseball cap, do-rag, anything you feel comfortable with.
Hair does go through resting periods at certain times and doesn't grow. Perhaps a multi-vitamin would kick the growth back into gear?

I'm sorry to hear about the hair issues. Unfortunately, I don't have any tips on the split ends because you already do what I would say...use the Aussie products.
I would like to wish you a happy b-day, though. Mine is July 16. How about yours?
