To trim... or not to trim??

I'm in a little bit of a dilemma here. My hair is pretty much perfect (to me at least) but at the very back, there is one strand of hair that is about two inches longer than the rest. I'm not quite sure how it got to be that way, but it's pretty noticeable, and I've even had it referred to as a rat-tail. It doesn't really bother me personally, but I've had a lot of people tell me my hair would like more even and better overall if I trimmed it off. Do you think it's worth trimming it? I don't think there's any hair-dressers I can trust around here though.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling a bit, but that's probably because I am!

Is it a section or just "one strand" of hair? If it's just one single hair, trim it if you want to.

Hopefully your not talking about those horrid pig tails kids used to have in the 80's and early 90's? Is your hair short, but you like a pony tail poking out the bottom of your head? Please god no!

Does this look like a rat-tail to you? ;-)

I had the back trimmed so that my hair was the same length all around when it reached my shoulders, and should have had it done sooner. I think that you should get the back levelled off. You should only need it doing once.

No it doesn't. I looks great to me, and just let it grow. Mine's been growing for 5 years now and there's no way I'd cut mine. i also laugh a those people that reckon you should have a trim every 3 months for split ends etc. Surely people hear are growing it and not keep loosing the length
Cheers,
John. A very happy longhaired brit.

It's about an inch wide section, hard to explain. It's not that noticeable, but enough to make some people bug me about it.
