What do you do when you hate your hair, especially during the awkward stage, and when you want/-ed to cut it??? What brought/brings you back on the right way?

Take a deep breath. . .maybe wash your hair...
sit quietly and look within...
Ask yourself why you are growing you hair (do you remember when you first made
the decision to grow?)...
The ask yourself if this is still what you really want and why...
Maybe you have lost your original reason for growing your hair.
Give yourself a couple of weeks to think these things through...and...
Good Luck!

Hi!
Try and picture yourself with hair that's a bit longer in a few months'time. Keep that as an intermediate vision, as it were, in addition to your ultimate goal. Ask yourself how you'd feel if you cut it and regretted it.
I think it also depends on what sort of hair you've got and what sort of style you (and others whose opinions you value)feel suits you best.
But don't give up on your hair until you've made a rational decision, and then give yourself a cooling-off period just in case you change your mind. As for the awkward stage, so many men are growing their hair these days that it's becoming quite cool to have an 'awkward stage' style.
Cheers, Barry

Just hang in there! That is, if you're serious about growing it. I had the same problem because my hair's thick and wavy, so for a while it just looked BAD. You could try gelling your hair back - just slick it down for a few months until you can tie it back, then give it a couple more months and you should be OK. That's what I did and the time put in was worth it!! Cheers.

What's my reason for keeping it growing? The fact that I have almost been in tears the last two years I've chopped it all off. Seriously, once you've cut it the regret and longing is almost unbearable. 10 months old now, knee deep in awkwardness, but I don't care. I'm gonna make it to that damn tail if it kills me!

When I got really discouraged and frustratedly impatient, I got extensions. It's been two weeks as of today, and frankly, I hate them. They're horribly uncomfortable and after two weeks they look ratty, like some horribly old wig.
BUT...
What it did was make me see how my hair will (kind of) look in a year or so, and it looks pretty darned good (or did the first day.) So... now, although still impatient, it's given me the stamina to wait while my hair gets longer and a more concrete image of what I'm working toward.
It's not everybody's solution, but it worked for me.
