Hair loss due to weak hair roots?

Hi!
Since I have longer hair (necklength) I have to struggle with a rather unpleasant problem: hair loss. I don't mean that I'll get bald soon (just got 20), but I'm losing pretty much hairs everyday (30?). EVERYWHERE. In the bath (black hair on white stoves), in the kitchen, at work, on the floor, etc...
I know that this should be nothing to worry about, I know that longer hair means that I'll notice more hair loss, even if I don't lose more HAIRS - blah blah blah, but it gets annoying and the amount concerns me. Once a week I wash my hair, and I lose approx. 70 hairs everytime. And they get out so easy. Compared to when I had short hair I nearly don't have to use force when deliberately tearing out a hair.
I think it has something to do with my hair roots. They appear much smaller than a year before. I don't think it has something to do with my longer hair, but with my nutrition. It went from "Fatty McFat" to "My goodness, is he anorectic?". My fingernails, however, are in perfect health. And those are always are good monitor for deficiency symptoms. Actually they are even BETTER than a year before. ... And for my hair - well - it LOOKS and FEELS very healthy. (Taking my vitamines daily)
Any advices for hair root cures? (Shampoo, Leave-In conditioners, capsules, some sort of "vood vegetable", ..) ??
Please consider that I live in Germany, so advices like "Just go to Walmart and ask for ..." won't help, though most PRODUCTS (cosmetics and pharmaceuticals) should be available here too.
Thanx in advance,
Steven.

If you wash your hair only once a week, you will tend to lose hairs
eveywhere and everyday all over the place.
Part of the problem may be nutritional BUT...
if you wash...or at least rinse out...your hair everyday...
MANY of the loose hairs will come out in the shower...
and not here , there...and everywhere.
Good Luck!

Come on lets get serious, you wash your hair once a week and dont expect a lot of hairs to fall off? All those days that you should of washed your hair accumliate. When that day you wash your hair comes, you lose all those hairs you were suppose to. If you wash your hair everyday, you will notice you will see very little hairs fall off afterwards. Also, letting hair get too oily isn't good for hair. You should at least wash your hair with just water, and wash with shampoo and conditioner every 3 days. Personally I wash everyday because it tends to get oily. Make sure to detangle your hair you dont use a brush, but a wide tooth comb.

Are you stressed out or worried a lot? I notice that when I get really stressed for a long period of time, my hair comes out almost three times as often...

About 90 percent of the hair on a person's scalp is growing at any one time. The growth phase lasts between two and six years. Ten percent of the hair is in a resting phase that lasts two to three months. At the end of its resting stage, the hair is shed. When a hair is shed, a new hair from the same follicle replaces it and the grow-ing cycle starts again. Scalp hair grows about one-half inch a month. As people age, their rate of hair growth slows. People with blond hair typically have more hair (140,000 hairs) than those with brown (105,000 hairs) or red hair (90,000 hairs). Most hair shedding is due to the normal hair cycle, and losing 50-to-100 hairs per day is no cause for alarm. However, if you are concerned about excessive hair loss or dramatic thinning, consult your dermatologist.

Hair loss is genetic, look at your mothers brother if possible (his hair loss will most likely be yours.) Since you mention nutrition there are some theories that DHTEA (byproduct of testostorone) triggers male pattern baldness. There are some herbal remedies that allegedly scrub this chemical from your body.
Also "chill out", having long hair means each hair that falls out makes a bigger impact on the brush or drain. Every week for the past 20 years I have had a full brush of hair to dispose of, its normal. You might want to get a brush that is not as harsh and do it when dry. I use my fingers to take out the big tangles since blonde hair is not as strong as brown/black.
Nutrition is a good thing, keep it up. Drinking a good quantity of clean water is reccomended. Stress is bad for the body.

This is not true. I addressed this issue in another post.

In Men, too much Dihydotestosterone (DHT) is associated with male pattern baldness and with prostrate enlargement. DHT is considered the most biologically active of the male hormones. DHT is responsible for the developement of the genital system during fetal life and during puberty. Typically, testosterone is converted into the much more powerful androgen, DHT, when it enters the cells of the target make organs. Of course, since it's a hormone you can't scrub it off your body.

Male pattern baldness tends to run in families. If you have some research, please point out the posting where it is located. Seems interesting.

True. "Scrubbing" was more of a metaphor for a chemical reaction in the bloodstream of the body. Thank you for the correction (DHT.) Most health food stores sell herbal remedies to remove excess DHT from the body. I have not personally tried any of them and tend to be cautious of even natural remedies. Certainly strong chemical cocktails like rogane, etc have some undesireable side effects...
Hereditary hair loss

Oh it certainly runs in families, but it could be either side of the family. I'll make it easy and just quote myself ;)
Male pattern baldness, aka androgenetic alopecia, is a hereditary form of hair loss. Male pattern baldness is by far the most common cause of hair loss. I read somewhere that it's affecting over 20 million men in the United States. To fully understand what goes on in male pattern baldness, let's briefly revisit the hair cycle shall we. Over time, some hair follicles begin to shrink, producing finer, shorter hairs (some call it "peach fuzz" - how cute!). This is what accounts for thinning of the scalp. These changes usually start at the temples, appearing as the classic "receding hairline." It also occurs on the crown of the scalp. Eventually, hair follicles may begin to lose the battle for life, leading to hair loss. Bald spots may increase in size until the entire top of the head is bald with hair remaining only on the sides.
Lots of people believe the myth that hair loss is inherited from mommy's side of the family. But for many men who are losing their hair, their mother's father and male siblings have a full head of hair. So then why are they going bald? The truth is, baldness is a very complicated genetic trait that may be inherited from either the mother's or the father's side of the family (or both). And it can even skip generations. So, please, don't blame your mom!
