Whenever I've been sweating I immediately take a shower with shampoo and conditioner. I find that due to the excess sweat and scalp oils, that my shampoo doesn't remove ALL of the natural oils in my hair. In turn, my hair isn't puffy as most of you guys fear.
Then again, I've been growing for a little over a year now with wavy/straight hair, so our cases may be different.
But either way, I think neglecting to wash the hair due to fear of bad hair is not good. And if your hair smells, I am curious as to why you wouldn't immediately shower? Unless you've been marked by a skunk, after the shower you should be able to breath easy.
How much thiking does it take...

We are all different, No? If hair starts out clean during the day, I cannot imagine that it is very smelly at the end of the day. If so a good rince should suffice. If it does not start cleam then a good shampoot ought to start the day our right.
In my epxerience, I think shampoos is overrated. I have reduced my champoos to no more than twice a week, but with daily rinces with conditionrs.
Same for itching
If these conditions continue, do not blame it on long hair but see a dermatologist.

If I had that problem, I'd change my shower routine to after I got home from work. That seems to be the time of day that it's most needed.
